Dev Derby, Make Your Mark, Reps and more…

about:mozilla is a weekly round-up of news and contribution opportunities. Here’s what’s happening this week:

Dev Derby Challenge
Enter our new Dev Derby challenge to show the world how much is possible using open technologies in a modern browser. The first challenge focuses on CSS3 Animations that will be introduced in Firefox 5. Check out the upcoming DemoParties in the events section below to get even more demo action.

Make Your Mark
Mark Up is a new 3D collaborative art project for the open Web. Get involved and make your “mark” for the world’s largest resource. The site uses the Graffiti Markup Language to help us create a visual statement that the web belongs to us all.

Join Mozilla Reps
Take your participation in the Mozilla project to the next level, apply to become a Mozilla Rep. This program is designed to make it easy for Mozillians to organize events, to inspire new contributors and to share their activities with the broader community.

Future of News
Vote for your favorite ideas from people around the world collaborating to invent the future of news. The Knight-Mozilla News Technology Partnership is looking for help to determine who advances to the next stage of our process of embedding hackers in the world’s most exciting newsrooms.

Who is in the Mozilla Community?

Twitter Search Add-on, Rapid Prototyping and more…

about:mozilla is a weekly round-up of news and contribution opportunities. Here’s what’s happening this week:

Twitter Search Add-on
Twitter has just released the Twitter Address Bar Search add-on to make it easy to complete Twitter searches in Firefox. Search for #hashtags and @usernames by entering the searches directly into the Awesome Bar. If this inspires you with a great idea, learn how to build an add-on.

Rapid Prototyping with Chromeless
Mozilla’s Chromeless project makes it possible to rapidly develop a working prototype using standard web technologies. Ben Francis is using this to build Webian Shell, a full screen browser for devices that don’t need a desktop. Check out the demo and learn about how to use Chromeless to make your own prototype.

Progress on Progress
Aurora now has support for the HTML progress element that can be used to give visual clues of anything in progress on a web page. Take a look at this demo of progress and learn more about other cool developer features coming in Firefox 6.

Growing Communities
Dave Humphrey shares ideas about how to get people involved in projects based on his experiences with the Audio Data API, Processing.js and other community efforts. If you have other useful tips for getting people involved, share them on our contributor best practices wiki.
