December Update to Featured & Recommended Add-ons

We regularly rotate the add-ons we recommend on AMO to help our users discover what’s great on AMO.  These lists are a combination of established add-ons which may have been featured previously, as well as new add-ons getting recommended for the very first time.

New Featured Add-ons:

New Category Recommended Add-ons

Like all public add-ons, these add-ons have been reviewed by our editorial team and offer a great experience for Firefox users.  You’ll see these on the front page of AMO, in the Add-ons Manager on Firefox, and on the Category pages in AMO.  Some things we take into account when selecting these add-ons are:

  • Compatibility with the latest version of Firefox (3.6)
  • User Experience
  • Utility
  • Performance
  • User Satisfaction
  • Uniqueness
  • Popularity

Check out the newest add-ons on our recommended lists and see if any of them are right for you!

I’ve read/heard that an addon needs at least 15,000 active users to be considered to become a recommended addon. There’s an addon on this list with only 7,200 “downloads”. Does the AMO team no longer use active user count as a determining factor of becoming recommended?

I tried to download the fireftp program. It linked me to “download the latest version of firefox” which I had already done. I never could find a link that actually worked or a way to simply contact mozilla.

Let me tell you something, you’re website is starting to look like yahoo.com and that obnoxious adobe popup doesn’t happen with ie so I know by now you guys do it intentionally. You’ve got a hundred different versions and then pat yourselves on the back for your eternal updates. Bill Gates must be your real father.

Heres why we use your program and why most people don’t “donate” as you call it. First, the program is free. Second, because it used to be better than internet explorer. And third, we never know what it is we’re donating to, because its almost impossible to get through to a live body, and having to join…freaking join, join join.
I STILL havn’t been able to download the ftpfire program. But thats ok, I’ll just get another.

I had a whole year’s reminders stored on Reminder Fox, and the latest Firefox update removed my Reminder Fox entirely — I’m having to start all over again now, trying to remember a year’s worth of projects, bill dates, anniversaries, birthdays, and other important dates. Thanks a lot.

Is there going to be an update for January to the Recommended Addons lists?

Unless I’m missing finding it there is no Add-on that allows you to designate a collection of bookmarks to either sequentially or randomly become your Home Page for one browser start up. I think this would be really valuable as it would give you a way not to forget to re-visit interesting sites.

Any update on the recommended lists for February 2010? Does this get posted anywhere?
