Thanks to the tireless efforts of the AMO Editors group, we have reached an important milestone that hasn’t been reached in years (or ever, probably). All add-on review queues are currently empty.

This means that if you submit your add-on now or in the following days, chances are it will be reviewed within a few minutes. This is amazing feat, specially considering that add-on submissions are constantly increasing, and we add new policies all the time that make add-on reviews higher quality, but also longer to perform.

We’d like to thank and congratulate the AMO Editors team for their exceptional work along the years. You guys are amazing! We’ll call out our most active contributors soon, when we wrap up the very successful New Year’s Challenge.

PS: If you’re an add-on developer and your add-on hasn’t been reviewed, please get in touch with us by commenting here. It’s possible that your add-on is in an Incomplete state and you forgot to add it to one of the queues, or it could be a bug on our site.

I post these updates every 3 weeks to inform add-on developers about the status of the review queues, add-on compatibility, and other happenings in the add-ons world.

The Review Queues

Nominations for full review at the moment are being processed slower than usual. Most nominations are taking less than 4 weeks to review.

Most updates are being reviewed within one week.

Most preliminary reviews are being reviewed within 2 weeks.

These stats are taken from last week’s queue report:

74 new nominations that week. 153 nominations in the queue awaiting review.

115 new updates that week. 120 updates in the queue awaiting review.

97 new preliminary review submissions that week. 160 preliminary submissions in the queue awaiting review.

Waiting times are rapidly dropping and will continue to drop in the following weeks thanks to our New Years Challenge. There’s still plenty of time to participate and win great prizes, including tablets and a laptop.

If you’re interested in joining the AMO Editors team and help us review add-ons, please visit our wiki page.

Firefox 10

The Firefox 10 compatibility post is here. The compatibility bump to Firefox 10 was run last week, so any add-ons with compatibility under 10.* should be tested and manually upgraded in the Developer Hub, if possible.

You can run the standalone compatibility tool if you want to test your add-on yourself or if it isn’t hosted on AMO.

The Add-ons Default to Compatible feature is progressing, and we expect to land on Firefox 10 or 11. Once this is in place, your compatibility worries will be minimized, and we’ll be taking a more active role in letting developers know if their add-ons are incompatible with a new version of Firefox. This feature will be a big win for both developers and Firefox users, so we’re very excited about it.

Firefox 11

A compatibility blog post for Firefox 11 is coming up.

With Firefox 4, icons will become even more important as we allow for large <strike>128×128</strike> 64×64 pixel icons to really show off an add-on’s personality. To help get add-ons ready for this new focus on icons, we’re announcing an icon makeover contest!

Developers can nominate their add-ons to receive an icon makeover, and the community will vote for the 5 add-ons to receive new icons custom designed by our graphic artist.

Contest Details

Only the developer of a Firefox 3.6-compatible add-on hosted on addons.mozilla.org can nominate their add-on for a new icon by submitting this form. Add-ons are eligible to enter regardless of whether they currently have an icon.

Nominations will be accepted until July 23, 2010 at 11:59:59pm Pacific. The contest will open for community voting on July 26, 2010 through an announcement on this blog and last until August 6, 2010 at 11:59:59pm Pacific. Winners will be announced the next week and will be contacted by our designer, who will work with you to create a custom icon for your add-on to be used on addons.mozilla.org and elsewhere.

Update: Firefox 4 will allow for icons up to 64×64 pixels, not 128×128 as originally reported.
We look forward to your nominations. Stay tuned to this blog for details on how to vote for your favorite add-ons!

Mozdev and Mozilla Europe are teaming up to sponsor a contest for mobile add-ons. The following post is from the Mozdev blog.

Here at Mozdev, we want to see more add-ons for Firefox Mobile (aka Fennec), so we are teaming up with Mozilla Europe to make a challenge. The task is straightforward. You need only at this time to propose porting your existing add-on to Fennec, or write a new one, with a commitment to finishing it (or at least having a solid proof-of-concept) in time for the Mozilla Maemo Danish Weekend on 30-31 May.

REQUIREMENTS
(We are on a tight schedule and have logistics constraints, so apologise for the deadline and geographical restrictions)

Write a short proposal stating what your add-on name and current install location, why you think it would be useful to mobile browser users, and how you plan on going about implementing it. Send it to brian@mozdev.org by Friday 15 May, at 12:00 CET.

This challenge is only open to developers living in Europe.

The challenge open to current Mozdev project owners, and other developers who host their projects elsewhere.

PRIZE

10 developers will be chosen, and Mozilla Europe will sponsor your travel and hotel expenses to attend the Mozilla Maemo Danish Weekend.

Entries will be judged by Mozdev representatives.
