I had a similar feeling issue with firebug in firefox, with a similar solutions. I am using Lightning 1.9, and Thunderbird 17.0.3 Although this problem started earlier and whatever caused it might have been carried over. The only error I get that seems significant is this one. All the other specifically refer to a newsgroup or rss feed

Timestamp: 2/25/2013 12:45:17 PM
Error: ERROR addons.manager: Exception calling provider startup: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80520015 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED) [nsIFile.directoryEntries]" nsresult: "0x80520015 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED)" location: "JS frame :: resource:///modules/XPIProvider.jsm :: recursiveLastModifiedTime :: line 1315" data: no]
Source File: resource:///modules/XPIProvider.jsm
Line: 1315

I tried to manually delete the lightning extension folder and came a across a strange issue where I was unable to delete a few things despite having admin permissions.

My solution to this and the firebug thing was to create a fresh profile, install lightning, and then manually copy from the old profile to the other, all my personal data, as instructed on this page: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Thunderbird

Everything is happy again. So whatever was preventing this from working was obviously not contained in any of the transferred files.

Hope this helps someone.

I don't know if this is the same thing I'm getting, but periodically I lose the ability to update calendars and tasks. Mostly I am using iCloud. I did not notice this prior to an upgrade to Thunderbird 17.0 and concomitant upgrade to Lightning 1.9. Google Provider 0.18, but I barely use my Google calendar.

No error message of any kind - it simply ignores whatever has been done. Open the task or event, make a bunch of changes, save it, and the changes are simply ignored. This is happening cross-platform, Windows 7 and Mac OS X Mountain Lion. (Have some Linux systems as well, but not properly built up yet, so no Thunderbird functioning there yet.)

I have figured out that deselecting the "offline support" for the calendar/tasks, waiting for the resync (the events/tasks all disappear, then slowly come back), then selecting "offline support" again (causing everything to disappear again, then slowly reappear again) seems to fix it for a few hours, until the next time it happens. The first time it happened, before I discovered this trick, the recovery was much more painful.
