As a PR intern with Mozilla I was in charge of many tasks and projects that both contributed to the overall marketing and PR goals of the organization as well as assisted with day-to-day activities. I definitely felt like a vital member of both the PR and marketing teams. This experience was extremely valuable to me, as I was able to gain knowledge in the technology sphere as well as participate in PR and marketing activities to allow me to flourish as a professional.

My main project for the summer was putting together a Mozilla Speaker’s guide. This guide is intended to be a resource for Mozilla spokespeople to reference during interviews with the media. It conveys the Mozilla story, and highlights the key messages about the organizations and products that reflect and tie back into the overall mission. One main challenge of creating the guide from a PR perspective was looking at it from the point of view for a journalist, and making sure to convey the Mozilla story, keeping in mind the audience of reporters.

Another thing that I was able to work on was revamping the Mozilla.com press center to make it more journalist-friendly. The idea of the press center refresh was to make the Mozilla news the forefront as well as make it easier for reporters to navigate. This task took a contribution and collaboration with other Mozilla internal teams.

A third thing that I was really involved with this summer was the one-billionth download of Firefox campaign. I contributed to the campaign in many ways, but most heavily on the PR front. Putting together a global PR campaign that included writing pitches, blog posts, coordinating social media outreach and communicating with team members across the world was definitely a challenging but very rewarding task. The PR campaign secured more than 80 original stories in publications all over the globe.

There were many, many other projects that I worked on that made my Mozilla experience what it was. Overall, I had a great summer at Mozilla.
