		<description><![CDATA[As an ex-GCC dev, the kernel people&#039;s attitude really bugs me too (especially the &quot;90% of programs are not helped by the optimization work in 4.x&quot; bullshit, which is, well, bullshit).  When they have actually bothered to communicate their requirements, GCC has done something about it (attribute always_inline, for instance).

That said, there&#039;s this general problem where people don&#039;t bother to report bugs or request features in open source projects because they expect to be blown off.  We ourselves have a bad track record there - pick any low-number bug that&#039;s still open and read the comments.  Fixing this is going to be hard, because it&#039;s a cultural change, not a technical one: we need to seek out the assistance of people with good communications skills, and we need to stomp hard on people who are assholes to the users *even if* their technical contributions are valuable.]]></description>
