Friday (November 20) in Munich and on Monday (November 23) in Leipzig , we had the next set of OpenSourceMeetups – organized by Mozilla and Openoffice!

Munich:

Started in this Summer we had now already our 4^th Open Source Meetup in Munich and this time with about 50 ! People attending.

We  had some very interesting Talks from Cacert, x2go (if you do not already know this Project – check it out), Openoffice.org and of   course a talk from myself about Mozilla !

I talked about the Mozilla Project and gave a little Demo about Firefox 3.6 and Lightweight Themes/ Personas and got the Impression that a lot of People love the new Firefox 3.6 Features and using this Beta for testing now !

Beside this Talks there were a lot of room for discussions and questions and I already got a lot of very interesting user feedback.

Its great to see how the Open Source Meetups have developed – from a Idea created on Train Rikde with Florian to a now very great running Event !

Leipzig !

Also on Monday I joined the first Open-Source-Meetup. A group of people from Leipzig organized the first Meetup and it great to see the Idea of the Open Source Meetups Spreading !

Also 4 Talks – about DTP applications on Linux – OpenStreemap, OpenOffice.org and Mozilla 🙂

Open Source Meetups will continue next year and we will change our Munich Events to a monthly event ! Also stay tuned for more exciting news about the Event !

And als little reminder 🙂 Open Source Projects live with the Community and so people support your favorite Open Source Project (like Mozilla) and as example join the Mozilla Community with downloading and Testing the Firefox 3.6 Beta 4 !

OpenSource Projects like Mozilla are a great success story ! As Example Firefox is now 5 years old and  330 Million People around the world use Firefox. Firefox was downloaded more then 1 Billion times so far !

All this would not be possible without the help from our Community ! People around the world work together to improve Mozilla Projects like Firefox, Thunderbird, our Labs Projects and more.

We started this Page and Posts on Volunteer Networks a few weeks ago (here you find a Blog post from David) and so far its a great success! We get every Day a lot of mails from people, eager to get started to build a better internet. Special Thanks to David Boswell and all others to set this site up !

Am Freitag, 20.November ab 17 Uhr findet nächste Treffen im Café Netzwerk in München statt!

Wie bisher wird diese Veranstaltung von Mozilla und OpenOffice.org organisiert aber auch andere Projekte haben die Möglichkeit, sich mit einem kurzen Vortrag vorzustellen und in direkten Kontakt mit ihren Anwendern zu treten.

Im Rahmen einer Idee möchten wir versuchen, die Macher und die Nutzer von freier Software zusammenzubringen – in gemütlicher Atmosphäre, ganz unverbindlich, ohne kommerzielle Hintergedanken. Die Projektmitglieder können in direkten Kontakt mit ihren Nutzern treten, um wertvolles Feedback zu bekommen, und die Anwender lernen Leute aus ihrer Region kennen, die am Projekt beteiligt sind. Die Teilnahme ist natürlich vollkommen kostenfrei und unverbindlich.

Jeder ist willkommen, vom Firefox-User, der mehr über Open Source/beispielsweise das Mozilla-Projekt erfahren und mitarbeiten moechte bis zum aktiven Entwickler, der schon jahrelang zum Erfolg von Open Source Software beiträgt.

Zwecks Planung gebt uns bitte kurz per E-Mail direkt an info@opensourcetreffen.de bescheid (oder auch mir direkt unter tomcat@mozilla.com, wenn und mit wie vielen Personen ihr kommen wollt ! Die Anmeldung ist natuerlich kostenlos und unverbindlich !

Zudem findet am 23.11.2009 das erste Open-Source-Treffen in Leipzig statt (Montag, den 23. November, ab 19 Uhr) (Vielen Dank an die Leipziger an dieser Stelle!) ! Dies ist das erste Treffen dieser Art ausserhalb von Muenchen und ich werde auch in Leipzig sein, um einen Vortrag zu Mozilla/Firefox dort halten.
