What browser you choose and why! – Tell us and get a free CeBIT ticket

February 24th, 2010 by cbook

Hi,

This week starts the Browser Choice screen and it will give you the opportunity to choose one or more browsers !

At Mozilla we have done a lot to inform the User about their choice, from working with Microsoft to include Firefox in the Browser Choice screen to setting up http://opentochoice.org/ with the Open Letter from Mitchell Baker and John Lilly.

We would like to hear which browser(s) you chose to use and why. Post a comment to this blog post and you will receive a free day pass for CeBIT (subject to availability – and also see the rules  here)

Looking forward to reading what browser you choose and why!
Thanks !

I use SeaMonkey because it is small and efficient and integrates all the online functionality I use in a normal day – better to have one program that does it all in a small memory and CPU resource stamp than three that all use the same engine!

  2. Murray Says:

Isn’t it a teensy bit ironic having the sweepstake rules in a proprietary Microsoft Word document?

  3. Tomy Paul Says:

I Use firefox 3.6 . As a web developer, I am very much comfortable using FF3. Its addons like Firebug, Measureit, Colorzilla, Fireshot, YSlow etc makes me easy to work. Thanks to Firefox and Mozilla team

  4. Paul Says:

I love using Mozilla Firefox. I use a lot of the add-ons to their browser. I also love the security involved with Firefox. You can also customize Firefox a lot easier than you can with IE.

  5. FooTh Says:

firefox – fast and reliable + easy with add-ons

  6. Lars Gunther Says:

I use Firefox about 90 % of the time and Opera for the rest.

I think it is wise not to get stuck in a rut, hence my switching.

Firefox is my #1 choice thanks to its community, excellent add-ons (Weave!) and the gratitude I feel for it having broken MSIE stranglehold of the web and thus enabling the new wave of web apps we are beginning to see rolling out right now.

I also appreciate Mozilla’s stance on standards, including quality of implementation, view of net neutrality and openness – something they have in common with Opera, minus the fact that Opera is closed source.

Now I am only waiting for the n900 version to become a little faster and more stable, so I can use it all the time as well.

  7. Tomy Paul Says:

I am using Firefox 3.6. It is one of the best Open Source Application ever built. As a web developer, FF makes my jobs easily done with its amazing addons like firebug, YSlow, Measureit, Colorzilla, Fireshot..etc

Sometime I use also google chrome for it’s amazing fast javascript engine

  9. Sudhanshu Says:

I use Mozilla firefox, simply cause of its vast add-ons. I dont care about CPU load much, unleass its taking too much.

  10. Giorgio Tassinari Says:

I’m using preferably Mozilla, because it’s easier, faster, includes a lot of additions (e.g. FB toolbar, etc.); I use Internet Explorer only when I have to access Windows Update, and sometimes in the past with a few applications that were showing some problems with Mozilla; Chrome is nice, but I use it only occasionally, as all my normal activities are satisfactorily using Mozilla.

  11. Matheus Rosa Says:

I use FireFox 3.6 because its fast, safe and have many complements avaiable on the internet and that help me a lot!

  14. Joep van der Heijden Says:

I have been using Firefox for 2 years. For the last 2 months I have been using Google Chrome. I might use Opera when the new version comes out.

  15. Justin Says:

Opera all the way!! Fast browser that is very stable with lots of nice functionality, my favourite being ‘Opera Link’ as you can syncronise your bookmarks, history, searches etc across different computers. I use 3 computers daily and this saves me a lot of hassle!

There are also plenty of Widgets for Opera although l think they could integrate them with the browser a little better. Good interface and menus too.

    Overall it’s a great browser.

I am a web developer and so am constantly using various different browser for testing so have a good idea of all browsers.

  16. Richard Says:

I use Firefox because it is reliable, fast and isthe bestall round performer in terms of dealing with web content; php javascript etc. Plus it is extensible and also Firefox has a very cool logo, not to mention free!

  17. Bhanu Kiran Says:

I love Mozilla Firefox because it’s very standards-compliant and it respects open protocols. It’s also very secure and patches for new vulnerabilities come up quickly.

  18. macakraca Says:

It’s Firefox and Firebug. Nothing like it.

  19. Siddhartha Says:

I have been using Opera for years… it just keeps getting better and faster. and it just does all the core addon functionality of other browsers out of the box(bookmark sync).. its got a in built mail client, bittorrent client, great developer tool(dragon fly)…
and it syncs so well with opera mini on my mobile.

  20. Bill Elliott Says:

The popularity of Firefox is contagious, the many useful add-ons and being so much faster, I finally reached the breaking point with IE8. Mozilla does what I expect whereas IE8 keeps me guessing if it will work the same. Recent issues with IE add-on management does not seem to get much attention by MS.

  21. Martin Says:

I use Firefox 3.5. Though I will upgrade to 3.6 probably very soon. I use Firefox because I believe in the benefits of a great opensource project on the one side, but I am also thankful that Mozilla’s goal is to “fight” for a completely free and open access to the web. For example, some people may like that their browser now supports HTML5 video from youtube. I can see that. But I learned a lot from Projects like Mozilla, and I’m even glad that my browser “has to” use the Flash-fallback now. Firefox is just a awesome, fun, secure browser and it’s really not hard to convince other people to use it as well ;)

  22. Kenseiden Says:

I have used all of the major browser, and since 2005, Firefox has been my first choice. Yes, there are times when I will use a different browser because of site compatibility issues, but Firefox has been my default browser for nearly 5 years. I like the security add-ons (unavailable on other browsers) and the flexibility of layout. I will use IE ONLY for accessing the MS website. CPU load is not too bad on my Core2Quad setup.

  23. Vinicius Fiorio Says:

I’m using google Chrome, it’s fast, it’s clean and the new extensions is great Twitter/Facebook/Buzz all in one click

  24. Galaxy Says:

I used to use Firefox and Chrome and as Chrome is giving a lot of trouble since I changed from OS to Windows 7 I stopped using it.

I choose Firefox for several reasons:

    #1 It is open source
#2 Plays videos inside the browser
#3 Really fast in loading web pages
#4 File API is the great API i have ever used in Firefox
#5 Personas!!!!!! I love it! We can change the themes within seconds.
#6 Weave Sync: This addon saves all the bookmarks, passwords, open tabs and everything on the mozilla server using the encryption on the clients side itself.
#7 Loads fastly unlike other browsers like IE which takes a lot of time to load.
    #8 Font change API.

These are few of the reasons why I choose Firefox to be my default browser.
At present I am using Minefield 3.7a2pre. This is the nightly build of Mozilla Firefox. This has a good GUI.

  25. Ravi Kiran Says:

I Prefer Firefox First and Secondly i Prefer Google Chrome

First Firefox Because I Experience Fast Browsing and Security than the other Browsers.

and I also Feel the Same in Chrome

  26. Shrimaan Pednekar Says:

    Mozilla Firefox

    - open source
    - faster
    - great themes
    - lots of addons

  27. Frank Gerritsen Says:

I’m using Firefox because off all the really handy add-ons like firebug , SenSEO, Screengrab etc etc. All these add-ons help to make my work a bit easier. Keep on the good work.

  28. Hamza Says:

i use chrome cuz it is lite and fast

  29. Dragon_DLV Says:

For the longest time, after we finally rid ourselves of our AOL dependency (though sadly my parent’s still use it), I used FireFox. Lately, though, I’ve been using a combination of three different ones. (In order of Use per Day):
1: Chrome – (mainly because it pops up quickly, and reacts fast)
2: Flock – (firefox variant. tied into a number of things I use everyday, the RSS reader is much better, and most FF extensions work with it.)
3: Firefox – (the ‘good oldie’ in a sense. I use this because I have a number of things fav’d on it, and works in conjunction well with my other browsers.)

Oh, and it said “If you will not be able to use your ticket, please let us know so we can give it to someone else.” I highly doubt I’ll be able to get over to Germany when it’s happening, so you can skip me if I was to “win” it or anything…

  30. Greg Says:

    Mozilla Firefox

    -Customizable to my liking
-Extensions and themes by the boatload
-Support is there when you need it
    -Open Source

My favourite browser is Mozilla Firefox….

    because it’s faster, flexible & give freedom….
    nothing is impossible here….. ;)

    like our wife…. don’t leave it…. :D

  32. Greg Says:

I use FireFox primarily. For web development nothing beats that add-ons. I occasionally will jump on IE or Chrome.

The add-ons and themes allow me to make the browser my own and that is a nice feeling. It is unique to me and how I need to use the web.

  33. Patrick Says:

I chose Mozilla Firefox, because it is safer than Internet Explorer. Additionally, it has a lot of great innovative features (for example the awesome bar) that make browsing super easy. Try it for a few days and you can’t imagine to live without it. The killer feature of Firefox is the add-on. No matter what you need, there will be an add-on for it. It’s like in the commercial for the iPhone from Apple – except that Firefox add-ons are free.

  34. Jake Kromer Says:

Mozilla derivitives are my favorite. Such as GNU Icecat on my (GNU)/Linux boxes and FireFox on all other OS boxes.

    I like them because:
    -free and free
    -extensible
    -flexible
-do as I want and has my privacy in mind

  35. Suzelle Miller Says:

Yeah…what they said. Truthfully, my son a grad student @ U of Texas in Brownsville tweaked my laptop while home for the holidays. He set up Mozilla Firefox for me. I’m always getting into trouble going where I shouldn’t go. Firefox makes things the most simple and easy to use without getting into trouble. Thanks son, and thank you Firefox.

  36. James Says:

I use Firefox b/c they have a wonderful portable version that I can keep updated. That means that whenever I’m somewhere where the installed browswer is out of date, I can still have a great browsing experience with Firefox.

  37. Pedro Madeira Says:

I currently use google chrome as I like to surf the alfa bleeding edge wave just as I did back in the day with Netscape, Seamonkey and Firefox.

By being a alfa/beta tester of products with potential is the best way to promote open choice.

    Pedro

  38. Pablo Says:

Mozilla Firefox… then Internet Explorer because the first one doesn’t work very well (or I haven’t got it work well) with some software tools that I need at office…

  39. srinivas Says:

i mostly use google chrome as it is very fast and light….
does not hassle me loading and loads the pages faster than any other browser..
also i have lots of space onscreen to look at the content…
the really cool feature is it does not hangup when one of the tab’s is not working..instead just that tab is closed(in case required)….

if u look at performance choose CHROME

  40. Sely Says:

Well I have almost all browsers for Windows, but mainly I use Firefox – of course the newst version – for browsing and surfing, then there is seamonkey, which loads really fast at the start for just looking sth up really quick. I am trying out opera and safari, never really used internet explorer. In the end, Firefox is my very favourite :)

  41. Jason Davis Says:

    Google Chrome all the way!
    - Bookmark Sync between all my computers anmd stored on my Google account
    - Extensions, more and more added everyday, similar to firefox extensions
    - Lightweight and fast
    - Made by Google, that alone has me hooked
    - More great stuff to come

  42. Edward Taylor Says:

I used Mozilla Firefox for several years however in light of increasing popularity and in turn an increase security vulnerabilities, I switched to Google Chrome several months ago. While the browsing experience (web page compatibility and selection of add-ons) is not as well developed as Firefox, I feel more secure from browser-based vulnerabilities during my day-to-day web surfing.

  43. Adrian Kalla Says:

SeaMonkey – since the release of Mozilla Suite 0.9.6 :)

-SeaMonkey has everything I need (browser, mail, irc, …)
    -free software
    -as secure as Firefox
    -I like shrimps ;)
-I like to use things no one else is using :P

  44. vollkorn Says:

I use Firefox for it’s performance and stability.
Plus I love the add ons expecially search engine add ons which enable me to quickly do specialized searches and zotero which helps me organizing papers and other sources for my own research easily from inside my browser. Just awesome!
Oh, and I prefer free and open source software!

  45. digga Says:

As a free and open source software fan using debian the only good alternative is iceweasel! So to say Firefox.
Even for my old & slow desktop all the features I need with a decent performance.

  46. dasnak Says:

I use Firefox hence its useability and stability is very pleasing. I like the possibility of plugins and use a wide range of them. This includes bibliography(zotero), music (firefm) and sqlbrowser.

  47. maine Says:

firefox is the browser of choice. It runs on multiple platforms and renders pages fast and good.

  48. monkeywrench Says:

I love Firefox 3.6! I still use version 2.0 for some development tasks to see if the webpages I write are displayed correctly and like the easy access to the webpages source and all the development tool add-ons available. Great for developers!

  49. saulus Says:

I use firefox for historical reasons: I used every known browser over the last 10 years and the first one I got satisfied with was firefox. now stick with it.

  50. bizz2go Says:

I’m so annoyed by the permanent virus threat on IE that I switched to Netscape ages ago and stuck with it when it became Mozilla suite and finally became the Firefox of today and never since had any security issues! That’s a piece of real quality software!

  51. honk Says:

Firefox is just amazing. Stable fast and easy to use. Everyone I know uses firefox these days (convincing some of them).
However, I wish a larger rendering area hence you use firefox to surf in the internet not to look at the firefox buttons. How about a semi-transparent layer thats getting obtuse when pulling the mouse above?

  52. Langzeitstudent Says:

Within my studies I had to test a lot of webpages for vulnerabilities and the tool of choice was firefox with tons of security related add-ons helping me efficiently with my work. I was so pleased with the great availability of extra functinality that I changed to firefox as my default browser.

  53. firestarter Says:

Most of the time I use firefox. This is because its free, flexible and extensible. Whenever Firefox does not support the technology I have to use the internet explorer. This only affects windowsupdates, afaik

  54. Leo Whittaker Says:

I started using Firefox 3.0 and am now up to Firefox 3.6 and am very happy with it. It has add-ons that I have not found in any other browser. Every once in a while I use Google Chrome but it isn’t often.

  55. fedja rashpil Says:

I am using Firefox since the version 2.
Startet to use it, because it was one of the fastest browsers and the most accurate at rendering the sites at that time. Now i’m just used to it. I think, that the best thing about Firefox it that its very slim, but if you want it to, you can get a load of features through installation of add-ons.

  56. Carlos Says:

It definitely seems so. Great blog by the way!

  57. porno Says:

Now i’m just used to it. I think, that the best thing about Firefox it that its very slim, but if you want it to, you can get a load of features through installation of add-ons.
