The purpose of GAAD is to get everyone talking, thinking and learning about digital access\/inclusion and people with different disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>Mozilla is committed to ensuring that all of our offerings are accessible and inclusive. Global Accessibility Awareness Day is a great opportunity to recognize and celebrate that.<\/p>\n<p>At Mozilla, accessibility is a fundamental part of our mission, helping to empower people, regardless of their abilities.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mozilla.org\/mission\/\">Our mission<\/a> is to ensure the Internet is a global public resource, open and <em>accessible<\/em> to all. An Internet that truly puts people first, where individuals can shape their own experience and are <em>empowered<\/em>, <em>safe<\/em> and <em>independent<\/em>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And, from our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mozilla.org\/about\/manifesto\/\">Manifesto principles<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The internet is a global public resource that must remain open and <em>accessible<\/em>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>We are committed to an internet that includes <em>all the peoples of the earth<\/em> \u2014 where a person\u2019s demographic characteristics do not determine their online access, opportunities, or quality of experience.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>We are committed to an internet that catalyzes collaboration among <em>diverse communities<\/em> working together for the common good.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Over the last year, Mozilla has made significant progress in our efforts to ensure that all of our products and services are not only accessible, but a delight to use for people with disabilities.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We shipped <a href=\"https:\/\/support.mozilla.org\/kb\/access-toolbar-functions-using-keyboard\">full toolbar keyboard navigation<\/a> for Firefox desktop which makes it possible for screen reader users and users who primarily use the keyboard to access all of Firefox\u2019s most important features.<\/li>\n<li>We delivered default page zoom and high contrast mode backplate, improving web page readability for people with low vision.<\/li>\n<li>We shipped <a href=\"https:\/\/developer.mozilla.org\/docs\/Tools\/Accessibility_inspector#Features_of_the_Accessibility_panel\">accessibility audits and a color deficiency simulator<\/a> in the Firefox Dev Tools giving web developers more tools to make more accessible sites.<\/li>\n<li>All new Firefox front end features, from a completely redesigned Awesome bar to Lockwise integration to picture-in-picture support, were accessible on day one of their release.<\/li>\n<li>We made significant foundational progress onscreen reader support on Mac, the only platform for which Firefox lacked support.<\/li>\n<li>We modernized and significantly improved support for Android accessibility services in Firefox Preview (our upcoming new mobile browser), including both Talkback and Switch Access.<\/li>\n<li>We put in place a <a href=\"https:\/\/wiki.mozilla.org\/Accessibility\/Triage\">Firefox wide triage process for accessibility issues<\/a> no matter where in the products they fall.<\/li>\n<li>We publicly documented the <a href=\"https:\/\/wiki.mozilla.org\/Accessibility\/Roadmap\">Firefox Accessibility Roadmap<\/a> and progress against major initiatives like <a href=\"https:\/\/wiki.mozilla.org\/Accessibility\/Mac2020\">screen reader support for Mac<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>We moved much of our discussion to <a href=\"https:\/\/chat.mozilla.org\/#\/room\/#accessibility:mozilla.org\">Matrix<\/a>, allowing greater community participation and visibility.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And there\u2019s more to come. We\u2019re working to make the Firefox family of products and services a delightful experience for people with disabilities and we\u2019re going to need your help.
