Add-on Compatibility for Firefox 24

Firefox 24 will be released on September 17th. Here’s the list of changes that went into this version that can affect add-on compatibility. There is more information available in Firefox 24 for Developers, so you should read that too.

Please let me know in the comments if there’s anything missing or incorrect on these lists. If your add-on breaks on Firefox 24, I’d like to know.

The automatic compatibility validation and upgrade for add-ons on AMO will happen in the coming week or so, so check your email if you have an add-on listed on our site with its compatibility set to Firefox 23.

Do you plan blocklisting ubunfox extension? It’s disable startpage buttons, makes Firefox instable and makes bad impressions about Firefox for Ubuntu users.

See the buglist, nobody makes it better, just waiting for nothing.

We don’t have any plans to blocklist it at the moment, since it doesn’t seem to violate our policies. Can’t it be disabled from the Add-ons Manager?

As per title of the bug, the 4kb limit is on each preference field, not a limit on the total size of a preference branch right? If it’s the latter as suggested by content of another bug report (16kb of non-root branch), then 4kb or even 16kb might not be a reasonable limit for addons with a lot of preference settings, like two of my addons.

    Can you clarify? Thanks.

The limit is per-preference, not per-branch.

This “add-on will be disabled” issue is a major downside for Firefox users, especially considering updates are VERY frequent. If there is no security issue, then Firefox need to have another think about how to make add-ons backward compatible following update, and stop this “add-on will be disabled” nonsense.
I really do like Firefox, and have add-ons that I use every day, but now cannot. Other browsers, like Google Chrome and IE10, no problem whatsoever using the same add-ons. So for now I am changing, until Firefox rethink this add-on compatibility business.

I agree. It’s a real nuisance when I cannot use my password manager (Abine Taco) and not have access to my protected websites for several days, every time Firefox gets updated.
I need those sites for my work, and this is costing me jobs and money.
Please, PLEASE, make sure add-ons work BEFORE you release a new version of Firefox.

Mee too: Please, make Firefox (24) and addons to work or check BEFORE the release!!! Thanks a lot.
And: please, make the explanations/answers more compact/smaller in volumen, and more complete, with a whole solution in one chapter. F.ex.: how to make addons WORK, not only download!!
If they can´t, then the release and aaaaalll the explaning stuff becomes to be confucsing and frustrating for an ordinery user. Thanks for great job otherways. Best regards

Firefox has just upgraded to version 24 (when I was out of the room) The first thing I noticed was that my Groowe toolbar was missing. I use this continuously during the day and I am very irritated by this.

When will it be made compatible? Every time Firefox updates something seems to disable. (Usually the Norton Safe Web) I am coming to the point where I’ll be looking for another browser.

    1. Jorge Villalobos wrote on

Is it this one? It doesn’t appear to be incompatible, so it’s possible that the toolbar was hidden somehow. This article explains how to customize your toolbars and get it back.

I have always been a fan of firefox but this new browser.. it crashed 2 to 3 times a hour. I’m getting so fed up with the flash not working or it just keeps loading and loading where I have to close and reopen. The browser before this one worked perfect and then you just added this one with out giving me the option of saying no.. I was very happy with the last browser.. it hardly ever gave me a problem.
I think it’s time to look towards google..
