New Contribution Opportunity: Content Review for addons.mozilla.org

For over a dozen years, extension developers have volunteered their time and skills to review extensions submitted to addons.mozilla.org (AMO). While they primarily focused on ensuring that an extension’s code adhered to Mozilla’s add-on policies, they also moderated the content of the listings themselves, like titles, descriptions, and user reviews.

To help add-on reviewers focus on the technical aspects of extension review and expand contribution opportunities to non-technical volunteers, we are creating a new volunteer program for reviewing listing content.

Add-on content reviewers will be focused on ensuring that extensions listed on AMO comply with Mozilla’s Acceptable Use Policy. Having a team of dedicated content reviewers will help ensure that extensions listed on AMO are not spam do not contain hate speech or obscene materials.

Since no previous development experience is necessary to review listing content, this is a great way to make an impactful, non-technical contribution to AMO. If you have a keen eye for details and want to make sure that users and developers have a great experience on addons.mozilla.org, please take a look at our wiki to learn more about how to become an add-on content reviewer.

I thought “non-technical” is an obsolete terminology

There seems to be quite a bit of spam on addons.mozilla.org these days (like this add-on for example https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/the-good-doctor-s01e11/). Maybe in addition to more content reviews the submission process needs to be hardened as well.

We’re working on a technical solution for this, too. 🙂

lol , Mozilla can spend 320 million for travel expenses in 2016 but cant even keep a pro team of reviewers …

erosman is still my favourite reviewer from the old (sdk/xul) team

I’m not happy with the choices for answers in the form to be a contributor. The examples include links but don’t give the option to check the content of the web site before approving.

Thanks for the feedback, B.J.! I appreciate how thoroughly you reviewed the examples. 🙂 This is something we might be able to include in future versions of the assessment.

What will happen when ONE evil person delete all add-ons just his decision?
Take a look at this for example.

Hi there, it doesn’t seem like that bug made a reference to deleting a user’s add-ons.

In the wiki it says applications for add-on reviewer is currently closed. Am I late?

    1. Caitlin Neiman wrote on

Hi Durblabh! You’re not late at all. 🙂 Applications for add-on content reviewers are open. However, applications for add-on reviewers (who evaluate code and perform functional testing) are currently closed.
