I am not understanding what this is all about! I just use the internet in a small way , nothing complicated. I do not know what I would do with an ADD ON! I do not play Little Games I live a very simple life. I am 84 years old . And I have no idea what to do with a addon.

Question! This “Best Updated Add-on” is for both desktop and mobile addons?

    Reply

    1. Amy Tsay wrote on

Hi Andy, the Best Updated Add-on category is for desktop. If you want to update a desktop add-on for mobile, that would be the Best Mobile Port category.

I just want ask before I enter. I develop complete themes. I can have 3 entries, this means I have to update 3 themes to work with latest Firefox version or I can use the latest version of my themes available? If I enter with 3 themes I get 1 shirt right? In order to enter I have to update my add-on Between June 13 – July 18, 2013 or I can update it in a few days, it gets approved and I enter the challenge ?

    Reply

    1. Jivko wrote on

Sorry for my 2nd reply. I haven’t seen it right. It’s written June 13th, not July. Anyway one more question. On step 7 where it says ” Please indicate your t-shirt size and quantities. ** ” what do I have to enter, number 1 or something?

      Reply

    2. Amy Tsay wrote on

Hi Jivko, complete theme submissions have to be new–“Entries in the Mobile, Game, and Complete Theme categories may not be a forked version of an existing add-on.” You would get one shirt, even if you submit 3 themes. They just have to be submitted during the contest period. Next to the t-shirt size you want, indicate “1” if you are getting one shirt. Some add-ons are made by teams of people, so we wanted to give them a chance to enter the sizes they need for each team member.

Does it have to be approved by AMO before you can enter, or just submitted? And are you supposed to link to your addon’s page, or to the actual file?

    Reply

    1. Amy Tsay wrote on

You don’t have to wait for it to be approved before you submit the link. Winning, however, is contingent on it being approved.

I’m porting an existing extension to the SDK at the moment. As the implementation of the extension is drastically different (not just the front-end, backend is going from using an NPAPI plugin to JS-ctypes) I’m going to release it as a new extension. Does that meet the criteria for ‘Best Updated Add-on’ even though strictly speaking it’ll be a new extension?

    Reply

    1. Amy Tsay wrote on

You should probably submit it for the Updated Add-on category. We take “significance of new features and fixes” into account for entries in that category.

One more thing. Is the shirt going to be send after I enter or we have to wait till July 18th? Am I going to get an email notification when it is send? There’s a picture of the shirt with amp up firefox logo but does it has a Firefox logo on the other side?

We’re going to print the shirts after the contest ends to make sure we get an accurate count, so it will take a few weeks after the conclusion of the contest. On the back, between the shoulders, will be “addons.mozilla.org”

Hi Allasso, the Best Overall add-on will be chosen by the community from the pool of category winners. In other words, you choose which category you want to compete in, and the community decides which of the 5 category winners gets Best Overall.

Guess I have no idea what an “add-on” is, much less how to up-date or up-grade one!! And a plug-in? Thought that’s what you put into the wall receptacle. Guess someone will get a laugh out of this, but then I’m the gal who found “smart phones” smarter than I am!! Would anyone care to try to explain any of this? I wasn’t raised during the era of PC’s. We used slide rules for math in college – no handheld calculators back in the 1960’s. Thanks so much!

    What about “best security add-on”?
I only use add-ons due to security reasons: NoScript, Adblock etc.
If they weren’t I’ll use other browsers immediately.

And what about naming confusion: add-on, plugin, extension?
Beginner users are puzzled about this. See above.

85% of Firefox users. Nice stat… But dose that include that this 85% of users has installed their add-ons on there own? or are that just 85% because many applications/manufactures install junk addons without letting the user know about? Can you tell me how many of this 85% are aware of there add-ons?
