{"id":1642,"date":"2010-07-01T16:49:29","date_gmt":"2010-07-01T23:49:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/addons\/?p=1642"},"modified":"2010-07-01T16:49:29","modified_gmt":"2010-07-01T23:49:29","slug":"2-billion-downloads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/addons\/2010\/07\/01\/2-billion-downloads\/","title":{"rendered":"2 Billion Firefox Add-on Downloads!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong> <\/strong>This morning, addons.mozilla.org reached a huge milestone: <strong>we served our 2 billionth Firefox Add-on download<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/rockyourfirefox.com\/rockyourfirefox_content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/2B-downloads-chart.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"2B downloads  chart\" src=\"http:\/\/rockyourfirefox.com\/rockyourfirefox_content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/2B-downloads-chart-444x249.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"444\" height=\"249\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This exciting feat was made possible by the huge community of people who have made and used Firefox Add-ons since we launched in 2005.<\/p>\n<p>Over the years, we remained dedicated to building features and  products that make Firefox the world&#8217;s most customizable Web browser for  consumers and developers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2008:  <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/addons\/2008\/08\/21\/extend-firefox-3-contest-winners\/\">Extend  Firefox 3<\/a> (engaging with developers), <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/addons\/2008\/11\/18\/fashion-your-firefox-a-new-distribution-channel-for-add-ons\/\" target=\"_blank\">Fashion  Your Firefox<\/a> (introducing  first-time-users)<\/li>\n<li>2009: <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/addons\/2009\/08\/28\/recommendations-collections-and-contributions\/\">Recommendations,  Collections, &amp; Contributions<\/a> (improving user experience), <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/addons\/2009\/06\/04\/firefox-mobile-add-ons-one-small-step-for-mankind\/\">Mobile  Add-ons<\/a> (extending mobile browsing), <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/addons\/2009\/10\/21\/personas-now-on-amo\/\">Personas<\/a> (backgrounds for Firefox)<\/li>\n<li>2010: <a href=\"http:\/\/rockyourfirefox.com\/2010\/03\/its-time-to-rock-your-firefox\/\">Rock  Your Firefox<\/a> (sharing add-ons with consumers)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When we reached <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/addons\/2008\/11\/19\/1-billion-add-on-downloads\/\">1  billion Firefox Add-on downloads<\/a> in November 2008, we  thought it  would take us less than 3 years to get to the next billion, and with  your help, we&#8217;ve gotten to 2 billion in half that time! With more than <a href=\"https:\/\/addons.mozilla.org\/en-US\/statistics\/\">150 million  add-ons in use every day<\/a>,  we know that the next billion add-on  downloads will be here before we  know it.<\/p>\n<p>To celebrate this occasion, we asked you for your favorite add-ons  and created a special collection we&#8217;re calling the <a title=\"Best of 2  Billion Firefox Add-ons\" href=\"https:\/\/addons.mozilla.org\/en-US\/firefox\/collection\/bestof2billion?src=rockyourfirefox\"><strong>Best  of 2 Billion Firefox Add-ons<\/strong><\/a>. Check it out!
