{"id":195,"date":"2007-10-10T12:44:22","date_gmt":"2007-10-10T12:44:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mozillacalendar2.wordpress.com\/2007\/10\/10\/a_conference_call_with_david_a\/"},"modified":"2007-10-10T12:44:22","modified_gmt":"2007-10-10T12:44:22","slug":"a_conference_call_with_david_a","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/calendar\/2007\/10\/a_conference_call_with_david_a\/","title":{"rendered":"A conference call with David Ascher"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In our <a href=\"http:\/\/wiki.mozilla.org\/Calendar:Status_Meetings:2007-10-10\">weekly open developer confcall<\/a>, that happens on every Wednesday we had a visitor today: <a href=\"http:\/\/ascher.ca\/blog\/\">David Ascher<\/a>, the new CEO of MailCo or whatever it will be named.<\/p>\n<p>We talked about a lot of things with David:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lightning\/Sunbird release strategy<\/li>\n<li>Major obstacles to extension developers in Thunderbird and how those can be overcome<\/li>\n<li>David asked for suggestions for people who he might hire to work on Thunderbird<\/li>\n<li>Things that MailCo can do to support major extensions like Lightning (e.g. build support)<\/li>\n<li>The future of Thunderbird (e.g. Thunderbird 3 plans)<\/li>\n<li>and some minor stuff<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We won&#8217;t disclose all details of the discussion (like the future of Thunderbird discussion), because David will speak about that once he has sketched out a roadmap. But we&#8217;re now more positive about Thunderbird&#8217;s future and Lightning&#8217;s role in it, than we were a few days ago, when we heard that <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/bienvenu\/2007\/10\/05\/movin-on\/\">David Bienvenu<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/scott-macgregor.org\/blog\/?p=6\">Scott MacGregor<\/a> are leaving the Mozilla Corporation.<\/p>\n<p>More info will be posted later on this blog as Clint has taken some pretty detailed meeting notes, that he will post here in a short while. Let&#8217;s end this post with saying that David is really a great guy to talk to and we were very happy to discuss our views with him.
