The goal: leverage open web technologies in the 2012 presidential election. Some recent highlights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Using the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.universalsubtitles.org\/en\/teams\/newshour\/\">Amara<\/a> open source captioning and subtitling tool, PBS Newshour has built a volunteer community to translate over <a href=\"http:\/\/www.universalsubtitles.org\/en\/teams\/newshour\/\">200 election campaign videos<\/a> into multiple languages.<\/li>\n<li>NPR&#8217;s &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2012\/10\/02\/161884952\/pop-up-politics-2012-general-election-edition\">Pop-Up Politics<\/a>&#8221; annotates videos of candidates&#8217; speeches with fact-checking, annotations and context<\/li>\n<li>Al Jazeera&#8217;s interactive <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/indepth\/interactive\/2012\/10\/20121049528478583.html\">linked transcripts<\/a>, built in partnership with Knight-Mozilla\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mozillaopennews.org\">OpenNews<\/a>, lets users traverse, analyze and share candidates&#8217; position on the issues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Get involved<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/webmaker.org\/en-US\/projects\/pbs-newshour-ad-libs-2012\/\">Make your own political ad<\/a> with AdLibs.
