{"id":61984,"date":"2013-01-15T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2013-01-15T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/foxtail\/2013\/01\/15\/more-than-one-million-dollars-raised-for-charity-in-the-firefox-challenge\/"},"modified":"2021-05-24T20:57:19","modified_gmt":"2021-05-24T20:57:19","slug":"more-than-one-million-dollars-raised-for-charity-in-the-firefox-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/en\/mozilla\/more-than-one-million-dollars-raised-for-charity-in-the-firefox-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"More than One Million Dollars Raised for Charity in the Firefox Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Firefox Challenge, powered by Crowdrise, has officially ended and we are pleased to announce that more than $1 million was raised for social and humanitarian causes, turning individual action into global impact.\u00a0 We invited the world to take part by donating to a celebrity&#8217;s cause or fundraising for their own favorite cause.<\/p>\n<p>The winners are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First place donation of $50,000 will be awarded to the <a href=\"www.crowdrise.com\/ianmfc\">The Ian Somerhalder Foundation<\/a>. Ian Somerhalder Foundation aims to empower, educate and collaborate with people and projects to positively impact the planet and its creatures. Ian Somerhalder, actor, raised more than $122,000 in the challenge.<\/li>\n<li>The second place prize of $30,000 will be donated to<a href=\"http:\/\/www.crowdrise.com\/jimmy\"> Comfort the Children, International<\/a>, an organization that works alongside Kenyan communities to provide resources that create sustainable change. Jimmy Kimmel, comedian, raised more than $121,000.<\/li>\n<li>Third place prize of $20,000 will be donated to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crowdrise.com\/BatWorldSanctuary2012\">Bat World Sanctuary<\/a> who raised more than $105,000. The Bat World Sanctuary rescues and provide shelter and care to bats and is recognized as the world\u2019s leader in bat care standards and cutting-edge rehabilitation treatments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Altogether there were more than 118 charities competing to raise money in this year\u2019s competition and thousands of people came together to raise more than $1 million for charity.<\/p>\n<p>Mozilla would like to extend our congratulations and sincere gratitude to all participating individuals and organizations that made the Firefox Challenge a major success.
