All you have to do is <a href=\"https:\/\/paperstorm.it\/\">click<\/a> \u2014 a lot<\/span><\/i><\/h2>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the U.S., net neutrality is under attack.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ajit Pai, current Chairman of the FCC, put it bluntly: \u201cWe need to fire up the weed whacker&#8221; and remove rules like net neutrality, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/business\/la-fi-pai-fcc-chairman-20170123-story.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">he said recently<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To keep net neutrality (and a healthy internet) intact, Mozilla is deploying<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Paperstorm, our activism website developed alongside design studio <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/studiomoniker.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moniker<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Over the next several weeks, we\u2019re asking American internet users to send a salvo of tweets to Chairman Pai. \u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How? Visit <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/paperstorm.it\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paperstorm.it<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and start clicking. Each click drops a digital leaflet on the FCC\u2019s headquarters in Washington, D.C. Drop enough leaflets and you can trigger a tweet to Pai.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10814\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10814\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-10814 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/twitter-1.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"628\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10814\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">We&#8217;re asking Americans to Paperstorm the FCC<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paperstorm is a tongue-in-cheek website. But from past net neutrality efforts, we know that a loud chorus of voices can make an impact. And we need to make an impact quickly: Pai and the FCC commissioners are expected make a net neutrality decision in late fall or early winter of this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>A net neutrality refresher<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2017\/may\/18\/net-neutrality-vote-fcc-open-internet\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In May of this year<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Pai introduced his\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/apps.fcc.gov\/edocs_public\/attachmatch\/DOC-344614A1.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">proposal<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to undo net neutrality by re-re-classifying Internet Service Providers (ISPs) from Title II to Title I under the Communications Act of 1934. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What this means: Under Pai\u2019s proposal, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/technology\/331012-what-killing-net-neutrality-means-for-the-internet\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ISPs would be allowed to block, throttle and prioritize (or deprioritize) internet access for Americans<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Companies like Comcast and AT&#038;T could selectively slow down or speed up access to online journalism, blogs, films, apps, and other services.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This would undo 2015\u2019s hard-won net neutrality protections that took years of hard work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Net neutrality may seem like an abstract issue, but its impact is anything but. Without it, the internet becomes less open. No net neutrality means fewer opportunities for startups and entrepreneurs, and a chilling effect on innovation, free expression and choice online.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mozilla Chief Legal and Business Officer Denelle Dixon <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/blog\/2017\/05\/18\/one-step-closer-closed-internet\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">gives real-life examples<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of a web without net neutrality: \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the past, without net neutrality protections, ISPs have imposed limits on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/2012\/09\/factime-fcc-flap\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who can FaceTime<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and determined <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/2011\/01\/metropcs-net-neutrality\/#seealso4caf81f8cdb49bca77d1d89d25ba3015\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">how we stream videos<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and also adopted <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/news\/telco-agrees-to-stop-blocking-voip-calls\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">underhanded business practices<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>About Paperstorm<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paperstorm is a digital activism website that urges Pai and the FCC to keep net neutrality intact. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When users visit Paperstorm, they\u2019ll see an aerial view of the FCC headquarters on 12th Street SW in Washington, D.C. With each click of the mouse, users drop a digital leaflet that reads:<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10813\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10813\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-10813\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/facebook_og_image-600x315.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"315\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10813\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A Paperstorm leaflet<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What do these leaflets do? When you drop enough, you can generate a tweet to Pai. Alone, you might drop a small stack of leaflets and send a handful of tweets to Pai. But together, we can drop millions of leaflets and launch tens of thousands of tweets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paperstorm is a collaboration between Mozilla and the Amsterdam-based, Webby award-winning design studio <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/studiomoniker.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moniker<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This is the first time Mozilla and Moniker have deployed Paperstorm in the U.S. Earlier this year, Mozilla and Moniker deployed Paperstorm in the EU to demand common-sense copyright reform \u2014 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/blog\/2017\/07\/17\/60000000-clicks-copyright-reform\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">we dropped 60,000,000 leaflets and sent 12,000 tweets to lawmakers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Part of a larger movement<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Millions of Americans <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/blog\/2017\/06\/06\/new-mozilla-poll-americans-political-parties-overwhelmingly-support-net-neutrality\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">across party lines<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> support net neutrality. Over the past several months, more than 22 million net neutrality comments have been filed in the FCC\u2019s docket, the vast majority in support of net neutrality. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On July 11, hundreds of organizations banded together in a Day of Action to amplify Americans\u2019 voices.
