In<\/em><strong><em> My Corner Of The Internet<\/em><\/strong><em>, we talk with people about the online spaces they can\u2019t get enough of, what we should save in<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/getpocket.com\/signup?utm_medium=mozilla-websites&amp;utm_source=blog.mozilla.org&amp;utm_campaign=pocket-collections&amp;utm_content=-na\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em> Pocket<\/em><\/a><em> to read later, and what sites and forums shaped them<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>This month we talk with <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/karenkho\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Karen Ho<\/em><\/a><em>, the journalist behind the <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/doomscroll_bot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Doomscrolling Reminder Bot<\/em><\/a><em> that reminds its more than 71,000 followers on Twitter to drink water, sit up straight and stop doomscrolling.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Photo credit: Kristin Foster<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is your favorite corner of the internet?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Journalists of Color Slack. I also play <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/en\/internet-culture\/everdeen-mason-nytimes-director-of-games-internet-interview\/\">Wordle<\/a> every day &#8211; my sister got me into it a few weeks ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is an internet deep dive that you can&#8217;t wait to jump back into?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After I finally watch \u201cEverything Everywhere All At Once\u201d in theaters, I will read every article written about the movie, the filmmakers and the stars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is the one tab you always regret closing?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I wrote out an email pitch to the New Yorker about my master&#8217;s thesis, but never sent it out of nervousness. A staff member ended up writing about the exact topic several months later, and it was nominated for a National Magazine Award in Public Service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What can you not stop talking about on the internet right now?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ongoing hate crimes against Asian Americans; how working in the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/04\/10\/business\/media\/news-media-coronavirus-jobs.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> media industry is especially odd and often overwhelming right now<\/a>; how the U.S. continues to fail in its approach to COVID-19; and my very cute dog Max, who does not care what I do for work or how many followers I have on Twitter. I also tell a lot of people about Goodwill Auctions, and plan to launch a newsletter about it soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What was the first online community you engaged with?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Sailor Moon fansite where I read episode guides, then a lot of time on Neopets, Teen Open Diary and LiveJournal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What articles and videos are in your Pocket waiting to be read\/watched right now?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s such a mess. A huge backlog of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/firefox\/status\/1513572455239008263?s=20&amp;t=YEDDptzQUgmRAZr8xGInAg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">John Oliver<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/podcasts\/510289\/planet-money\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Planet Money<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thisamericanlife.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">This American Life<\/a> episodes; features from the New Yorker, New York Magazine, The Atlantic, and Bloomberg Businessweek; and several business explainers on inflation, supply chain issues, hiring, and what <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/tech-policy\/2022\/05\/twitter-deal-leaves-elon-musk-with-no-easy-way-out\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Elon Musk&#8217;s bid for Twitter<\/a> really means.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When was the last time you caught yourself doomscrolling and what did you do to break out of it?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/05\/02\/supreme-court-abortion-draft-opinion-00029473\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Politico news broke<\/a>. I tweeted reminders out loud to myself and others about how getting enough sleep would give me more energy to read thoughtful articles and do my work today than staying up late reading analysis and bad opinions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you could create your own corner of the internet what would it look like?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A feed like <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/en\/internet-culture\/how-to-delete-twitter\/\">Twitter<\/a>, but with more safety and moderation guidelines and features. The commenting communities of old Deadspin and <a href=\"https:\/\/the-toast.net\/2014\/07\/22\/every-canadian-novel-ever\/\">The Toast<\/a>. The enthusiasm and pure joy of Tom Lum&#8217;s video about<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xlGuBT5GT10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> bees perceiving time<\/a>. Nicole Cliffe&#8217;s Twitter prompts. The tone and style of Matt Levine and Rusty Foster&#8217;s newsletters. The New York Times<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2020\/12\/10\/style\/gifts-from-cyberspace-2020.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Styles Desk Gift Guide from 2020<\/a> (and a lot of whatever editor\/writer Choire Sicha and<a href=\"http:\/\/tracyma.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> graphic designer Tracy Ma<\/a> dream up, they are both geniuses). More well-being options for managing time and focus. And lots of pet photos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Karen K.
