We all have an internet story worth sharing. In<\/em><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/tag\/my-corner-of-the-internet\/\"><em>My Corner Of The Internet<\/em><\/a><em>, we talk with people about the online spaces they can\u2019t get enough of, what we should save in <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/getpocket.com\/signup?utm_medium=mozilla-websites&amp;utm_source=blog.mozilla.org&amp;utm_campaign=pocket-collections&amp;utm_content=-na\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Pocket<\/em><\/a><em> to read later, and what sites and forums shaped them<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>This month we chat with Annie Rauwerda, the woman behind <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Depths_of_Wikipedia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Depths of Wikipedia<\/em><\/a><em>, which highlights weird and unexpected entries from the online encyclopedia. The project started as an <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/depthsofwikipedia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Instagram account<\/em><\/a><em> and has since expanded to<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/depthsofwiki\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Twitter<\/em><\/a><em>, <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@depthsofwikipedia?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>TikTok<\/em><\/a><em> and a <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/linktr.ee\/depthsofwikipedia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>live comedy show<\/em><\/a><em>. We talk to her about her obsession with memes, editing Wikipedia pages and finding the goofy corners of the internet.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is your favorite corner of the internet?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I really like goofy corners of the web, like this archive of <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200207170312\/http:\/\/www.oldmouse.com\/articles\/tricks.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">computer mice<\/a> and this <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/details\/rotatingfood\">archive of rotating food<\/a>. I love Discord so much. I love Twitter most of the time. And I love Wikipedia, particularly the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Timeline_of_the_far_future\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">timeline of the far future.<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is an internet deep dive that you can&#8217;t wait to jump back into?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m obsessed with finding the origin of meme images. I recently tracked down the <a href=\"https:\/\/defector.com\/in-search-of-a-hot-pink-bitch-named-breakfast\/#coral_thread\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hot pink bitch named Breakfast<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inverse.com\/input\/culture\/wikipedia-high-five-too-slow-photos-mystery-couple-solved\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wikipedia high five couple<\/a>. I spend a lot of time on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/lostmedia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lost media subreddit<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is the one tab you always regret closing?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I edit Wikipedia a lot, and occasionally I come across a guideline or gadget that\u2019s super helpful but hard to find (Wikipedia\u2019s guidelines are a total labyrinth). Thank god for command + shift + t!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What can you not stop talking about on the internet right now?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve been really into crossword construction! And making silly <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/anniierau\/status\/1616960291362717696\">Venn diagrams<\/a>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What was the first online community you engaged with?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When I was in elementary school, my dad quit his job to be a stay-at-home parent and started pouring tons of energy into being the coolest dad ever. I grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where there\u2019s a ton of snow in the winter, and he would make massive snow castles. It was right as YouTube was getting big, and he posted a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Cw3DFHme4NY&amp;ab_channel=FrostedAnimalCracker\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> video of the fort<\/a>. We got comments from people around the world. It was so cool!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What articles and videos are in your<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mozilla.org\/en-US\/firefox\/pocket\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong> Pocket<\/strong><\/a><strong> waiting to be read\/watched right now?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I love all the features in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quantamagazine.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Quanta<\/a>. And I\u2019ve been meaning to finish<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/1995\/06\/xanadu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/1995\/06\/xanadu\/\">The Curse of Xanadu<\/a> in Wired from 1995.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you could create your own corner of the internet, what would it look like?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You know how people create extensive, time-intensive projects dedicated to random things like<a href=\"https:\/\/www.horg.com\/horg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> bread tags<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/scandybars.tumblr.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">candy cross-sections<\/a> or<a href=\"https:\/\/oaklandlibrary.org\/explore\/?tag=found-in-a-library-book-artifacts%2Cfound-in-a-library-book-notes%2Cfound-in-a-library-book-facts%2Cfound-in-a-library-book-bookmarks%2Cfound-in-a-library-book-cards-and-letters%2Cfound-in-a-library-book-kids%2Cfound-in-a-library-book-photos%2Cfound-in-a-library-book%2Cfound-in-a-library-book-lists%2Cfound-in-a-library-book-written-in-a-book%2Cfound-in-a-library-book-creative-writing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> notes left in library books<\/a> or<a href=\"https:\/\/www.etymonline.com\/columns\/post\/bio?utm_source=etymonline_footer&amp;utm_medium=link_exchange\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> etymology<\/a>? I love archives, especially silly archives!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/slate.com\/technology\/2023\/01\/wikipedia-redesign-vector-2022-skin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Wikipedia turned 22<\/strong><\/a><strong> this year. What about it keeps contributors like you so dedicated to editing and maintaining its pages?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are a lot of canned answers I could give about a shared commitment to free knowledge, and I&#8217;m sure that&#8217;s part of it, but the real reason I edit is that it&#8217;s pretty fun. You get addicted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/annierau.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Annie Rauwerda<\/em><\/a><em> has been running Depths of Wikipedia since March 2020, when she started it as a sophomore at the University of Michigan.
