From pop-up windows and ads that autoplay to the sheer size of the internet, a lot of things scream for our attention. This makes it difficult to get things done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Firefox has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mozilla.org\/en-US\/privacy\/firefox\/\">privacy<\/a> at its core, making it a great choice for those who want to minimize <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/en\/privacy-security\/mozilla-anti-tracking-milestones-timeline\/\">online tracking<\/a>. It&#8217;s also easy to customize and make your own.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Personally, as someone who does a lot of reading and research as Mozilla\u2019s blog editor, a minimal <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/en\/internet-culture\/history-of-internet-terms\/\">browser<\/a> helps me stay focused. The window\u2019s tabs and menu options are also visible, indicating no distractions or additional elements on the screen.\" class=\"wp-image-75300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/278\/files\/2024\/06\/fx-window-8.24.41\u202fPM-1024x746.png 1024w, https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/278\/files\/2024\/06\/fx-window-8.24.41\u202fPM-300x219.png 300w, https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/278\/files\/2024\/06\/fx-window-8.24.41\u202fPM-768x560.png 768w, https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/278\/files\/2024\/06\/fx-window-8.24.41\u202fPM-1536x1119.png 1536w, https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/278\/files\/2024\/06\/fx-window-8.24.41\u202fPM-2048x1492.png 2048w, https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/278\/files\/2024\/06\/fx-window-8.24.41\u202fPM-1000x729.png 1000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 1: A clean slate every time you open Firefox or a new tab<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Click the cog icon in the right corner.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Switch off the toggle buttons.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click \u201cManage more settings.\u201d&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For both \u201cHomepage and new windows\u201d and \u201cNew tabs,\u201d select \u201cBlank page.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under Firefox Home Content, uncheck all the boxes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2: Customize the toolbar<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>On the menu, go to View &gt; Toolbars &gt; Customize Toolbar\u2026&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Drag icons from the toolbar into the overflow menu.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the bottom left corner, uncheck the Title Bar box.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click Manage themes and enable the minimal theme of your choice (I picked the Light Theme).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On the menu, go to View &gt; Toolbars &gt; Bookmarks Toolbar &gt; Never Show.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 3: Learn these shortcuts<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>If you choose to hide your bookmarks and the icons for new tab, new windows and reload for a cleaner toolbar, you can still use those functions through keyboard shortcuts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>New window: command + N<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New tab: command + T&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reload: command + R<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Show and hide bookmarks: Command + shift + B<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 4: Declutter web pages with Reader View<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>If <a href=\"https:\/\/support.mozilla.org\/en-US\/kb\/firefox-reader-view-clutter-free-web-pages\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Reader View<\/a> is available for a page, you\u2019ll see the Reader View icon <img decoding=\"async\" style=\"max-width: 100%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/278\/files\/2024\/06\/reader-view-icon.png\" alt=\"Icon representing Reader View in Firefox, featuring three horizontal lines of decreasing length stacked vertically within a square border.\"> in the address bar.
