Last week, we featured the first-ever installment of Webmaker’s Hottest, a new series showcasing the work of makers around the world. We focused on kittens, uncomfortable close-ups and self-atomising machines.
From translucent PNG moustaches, to Open(Art) gif-making jams, to tight white pants, it was all about unexpected and creative uses of the Webmaker toolset. This week, in contrast, we saw a lot of blood, zombies, blackbirds and other things that go ‘bump’ in the night. Adding #UNESCOremix, DIY T-shirts and some anime into the mix, this week focused on the eclectic, the fantastical and the red!
Here are details on the makes and makers who made this week awesome:
- From webmaker Amy Burvall, a touching and beautifully-composed introduction video about Hawaii, obstacles and costume celebrations for our much-loved #TeachTheWeb MOOC,
- From Numiko design in London, a brand spankin’ new Starter Make that shows makers how to create their own fancy newspaper cover with a bit of HTML,
- From webmaker Tobias Leingruber out of Berlin, a step-by-step guide to creating your own DIY #MakerParty T-shirt using only scissors, spraypaint and a few stencils,
- From webmaker Seanvp, a comic ode to human flesh that asks the eternal question in life, “Hipsters or Zombies?
- From Bay Area Video Coalition intern Karina Ibarra, a hilarious and bloody video that combines spooky storytelling and bone-chilling images for chuckle-inducing results,
- From Webmaker’s own Jacob Cagliano in Seattle, much-loved instructional remix of ‘Blackbird’ by the Beatles that brings together guitar cords and artistic inspiration,
- From aptly-named webmaker Sailormoon, a creative reinterpretation of old Sailor Moon anime footage with tidbits and opinions included for extra flavour,
- From webmaker Do Hyung Kwong, an inspiring video portfolio displaying an impressive knowledge of architecture, 3D printing and colourful origami,
- From Sook Ransaroop out of NYC, a video remix for Coder Dojo that makes learning about technology look like a whole lot of fun,
- From webmaker Osman Alper in Romania, a wonderful make for our #UNESCOremix campaign that illustrates the importance of sanitation for school children in rural Pakistan,
- From webmaker Kevin Hodgson, a colourful mix of stop-motion, crayons and action figures all about escaping the Dark Side,
- And lastly, from webmaker Anne Helmond, a hacker-friendly gig poster from last week’s amazing Observe-Hack-Make festival in Geestmerambach, Holland
It’s worth noting that every single one of the makes above is available to be remixed. So feel free to hack away by clicking “Remix” on the top right-hand side of each make. We’d love to see what you come up with. We’d also like to say a massive thank you to each of the brave and creative makers above for such an inspiring set of crazy and interesting makes this week!
Have a great make and want us to feature it here? Let Webmaker’s editor know about it! We want to see your best photos, remixes and creations so we can give them the community love they deserve across our global networks. Details on how to get featured can be found here.
And stay tuned next week for a set of makes that jump, squeak and howl…
