What's new on Webmaker.org: shinier Goggles, faster load times, new languages

X-Ray Goggles: new and improved

NEW: Industrial strength! The X-Ray Goggles are now compatible with more sites than ever before! In the past, they often would break or not work as expected when trying to remix sites like the New York Times or CBC.ca (due to a disruption in the gammaray forcefield dislocation capacitor). But Jbuck and Pomax fixed them and now they work like magic!

Webmaker.org: faster and flaggier

  • Flagging content. Inappropriate or spammy makes can be reported to us by clicking the “flag” icon at the top right.
  • Faster load times! We cut the weight of webmaker.org in half with lazy loading.

Localization: welcome Indonesian, Chinese, Portugese

We have shipped a bunch of new languages, and have turned on *all* langauges in Transifex. New languages recently added:

Popcorn Maker: polishes

New features and fixes:

  • “My makes” links now open in new tabs
  • Links on text and popup plugins now show the link icon in Firefox
  • Raw image urls work in the media gallery box
  • Layers can be renamed. And don’t auto-delete if empty.
  • The embed player API dispatches a “duration change” event
  • When you try to edit a project you do not own, it now remixes it.
  • Thumbnails take up the entire embed area
  • There’s a link to “help” buttons for Mozilla Support (SUMO)

Thimble: better publishing UX

New features and fixes:

  • You now always see the “publish” button, but it’ll only work if you’re logged in. That means you’re no longer scratching your head on how to publish if you never used Webmaker before!
  • You can now use ctrl-space to autocomplete words for CSS, HTML and JavaScript
  • “my makes” links opens in new tab
  • There’s a new “new page” button
  • Less scary mixed content warnings
