- Erin Mckiernan published the code and data for her latest preprint. Her first pass at full transparency, Mckiernan’s repo serves as a great example for those looking to get started releasing all the elements of their work.
- Ranodeep Saha blogged on the Kolkata node for the Mozilla Science Global Sprint, and outlined his plans for bringing science on the web closer to students in his community.
- Richard van Noorden reported on progress on the Reproducibility Initiative: Cancer Biology project, which has run into hurdles acquiring original data from researchers. Even though data sharing on request was a requirement of publication for the studies in question, requests made by the Initiative for data have taken two months on average to be filled.
- Marcus Munafò blogged on his epidemiology group’s recent move into open science, by pre-registering protocols with the Open Science Framework. Munafò observed the positive effects this practice had on accountability for his group.
- Martin Fenner dissected the issues and possible ways forward surrounding strengthening the web-based scholarly record with persistent and usable URLs and DOIs.
Policy & Community
- A consortium of librarians, researchers and lecturers in Ethiopia has organized around promoting open science there, recently agreeing plans to inject open science ideas into undergraduate curriculum and emphasize open access journals in library resources.
- The European research community recently proposed the development of an Open Science Strategy plan at the recently convened Competitiveness Council, geared towards interoperable infrastructure for data sharing in the European Research Area.

- The Berkeley Institute for Data Science is curating videos of guest lectures delivered at the Institute on data science & open data sharing.

- Codeneuro is collecting open datasets, tools & libraries and notebooks in neuroscience, and organizing benchmarking challenges and meetups around these resources.
- The latest release of the Journal of Brief Ideas has implemented user-curated collections of Ideas.
