{"id":11130,"date":"2014-03-12T10:00:41","date_gmt":"2014-03-12T14:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/webmakerblog.wpengine.com\/?p=11130"},"modified":"2019-02-26T12:42:10","modified_gmt":"2019-02-26T20:42:10","slug":"got-curriculum-that-teaches-web-literacy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/foundation-archive\/mozilla-learning\/got-curriculum-that-teaches-web-literacy\/","title":{"rendered":"Got curriculum that teaches web literacy?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"indonesia-webmaker\" src=\"https:\/\/webmaker.org\/img\/front-page\/indonesia-story.jpg\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" \/><br \/>\nIt is <a title=\"Open Education Week\" href=\"http:\/\/www.openeducationweek.org\/\">Open Education Week<\/a>, and to celebrate we are putting out a <b>call to build and curate Open Educational Resources<\/b> that teach the mechanics, culture and citizenship of the web (&#8220;<a title=\"Web Literacy\" href=\"https:\/\/webmaker.org\/literacy\">web literacy<\/a>&#8220;).<br \/>\nThese open resources will be <b>linked to on <a title=\"webmaker.org\" href=\"https:\/\/webmaker.org\">webmaker.org<\/a> and remixed by a global community<\/b> of educators, technologists and web enthusiasts who want to further web literacy in the world.<br \/>\n<b>Get involved and help spread web literacy in a few simple steps!<\/b><\/p>\n<h3>Email your web literacy curriculum to:<br \/>\nteachtheweb [at] mozillafoundation [dot] org<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nDo you have curriculum, a lesson plan or a learning activity that <strong>teaches concepts about the web<\/strong>? If so, would you be <strong>willing to share it<\/strong> with a growing community of like-minded people in an open education ecosystem?<br \/>\nImportantly, we&#8217;re looking for curriculum that don&#8217;t only teach web mechanics, but also the culture and citizenship of the web.<br \/>\nIdeal curriculum should be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>openly licensed, and freely available<\/strong> to be used and remixed by others<\/li>\n<li><strong>applicable to at least one of the competencies<\/strong> on the Web Literacy Map. (See https:\/\/webmaker.org\/literacy)<\/li>\n<li><strong>developed through iteration<\/strong> and testing with learners<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What we will do with the curriculum:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Convert it into a Teaching Kit or Activity<\/strong> using our <a href=\"https:\/\/webmaker.org\/teach\">modular and remixable template<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Feature it <\/strong>as part of a new interactive feature on webmaker.org that highlights the Web Literacy Map<\/li>\n<li><strong>Co-brand and give full attribution to your work<\/strong> including visual branding, links to your website and additional offerings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What does some example curriculum look like?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Complete teaching kits or activities<\/strong> using Webmaker tools or any others. For example, WYNC&#8217;s Radio Rookies&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/radiorookies.makes.org\/thimble\/diy-toolkit-how-to-report-your-own-story\">How to Report Your Own Story<\/a> activity.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Online courses or tutorials<\/strong>. For example, <a href=\"https:\/\/p2pu.org\/en\/schools\/school-of-open\/\">School of Open<\/a> by Creative Commons and P2PU.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wiki pages, articles, and other curriculum summaries<\/strong>. For example, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eff.org\/wp\/surveillance-self-defense-international\">Surveillance Self-Defense <\/a>by the EFF.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Share your curriculum, no matter the format, to:<br \/>\nteachtheweb [at] mozillafoundation [dot] org<\/h3>\n<p>And feel free to spread the word to friends and colleagues.<br \/>\nHappy <a href=\"http:\/\/www.openeducationweek.org\/\">#openeducationwk<\/a>!
