The Mozilla tent is jam-packed\u00a0with people of all ages hacking websites with Webmaker tools, diving into hands-on activities\u00a0led by organizations from across <a href=\"http:\/\/hivelearningnetworks.org\/\">Hive Learning Networks<\/a>, and taking a deeper look at making and learning through a\u00a0series of 30-minute workshops.<br \/>\nDay 1\u00a0at World Maker Faire kicked off\u00a0with a high energy <a href=\"https:\/\/mousemeredith.makes.org\/thimble\/LTE2Mjc5Nzk3NzY=\/tag-tag-revolution-activity\">HTML Dance Party<\/a> led by Hive NYC member <a href=\"http:\/\/mouse.org\/\">MOUSE<\/a>. \u00a0This unplugged activity got the early morning crowd clapping, stomping, and shaking, teaching participants basic HTML tags through movement.<br \/>\n<div id=\"attachment_12369\" style=\"width: 262px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/webmakerblog.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/HTML-Dance-Party.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12369\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-12369 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/webmakerblog.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/HTML-Dance-Party-252x335.jpg\" alt=\"Omar from MOUSE advertises the HTML Dance Party, the first Webmaker activity at Maker Faire\" width=\"252\" height=\"335\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12369\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Omar from MOUSE advertises the HTML Dance Party, the first Webmaker workshop during World Maker Faire.<\/p><\/div><br \/>\nThe energy in the tent continued as organizations from Hives in New York, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Toronto and Chattanooga joined\u00a0in the Maker Faire madness to facilitate activities and workshops.<br \/>\nMonica Moore, representing Hive Chicago member LevelUP Youth Maker Space,\u00a0gave event attendees a lesson in anatomy, physics, and robotics as she helped people of all ages construct\u00a0robotic fingers using straws, fishing wire, tape and paperclips.<br \/>\n<div id=\"attachment_12370\" style=\"width: 262px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/webmakerblog.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Monica.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12370\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-12370\" src=\"http:\/\/webmakerblog.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Monica-252x335.jpg\" alt=\"Monica from Hive Chicago member LevelUP leads an activity building robotic straw fingers. \" width=\"252\" height=\"335\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12370\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Monica from Hive Chicago member LevelUP leads an activity building robotic straw fingers.<\/p><\/div><br \/>\n&#8220;We&#8217;ve had a great group of all ages and from all over the world. \u00a0I think what&#8217;s really cool about this activity &#8211; and about a lot of what&#8217;s going on here at Maker Faire &#8211; is that it takes something that sounds really complex like robotics and makes it accessible,&#8221; she said, &#8220;Any kid can do this, and any teacher can remix\u00a0this activity using really inexpensive materials.&#8221;<br \/>\nMaking technology\u00a0accessible \u00a0was indeed a recurring theme of activities during\u00a0the first day of Maker Faire. \u00a0The creators of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.devlearnapp.com\/#\/\">DevLearn<\/a>, a project being developed as part of Hive Chattanooga&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/mozilla.org\/gigabit\">Gigabit Community Fund<\/a>, led an afternoon workshop teaching programming basics through gaming. \u00a0Mozilla volunteers showed off\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/webmaker.org\/en-US\/appmaker\">Appmaker<\/a>, the\u00a0newest Webmaker tool that makes it possible to create a custom mobile app in just seconds. \u00a0Jennifer Cross from Carnegie Mellon&#8217;s Robotics Institute joined with Hive Pittsburgh team members to share<a href=\"http:\/\/hivepgh.sproutfund.org\/project\/arts-and-bots\/\"> Arts&amp;Bots<\/a>, a program that engages broader group of students in STEM topics through connections to art and creativity.\u00a0 We were also joined by Brooklyn Public Library, Toronto Public Library, Sweet Water Foundation, Carnegie Hall with World UP, Iridescent, Hopscotch and Willie Mae Rock Camp.
