Drag the big yellow &#8220;Activate X-Ray Goggles&#8221; button to your browser&#8217;s bookmarks toolbar.<\/p>\n<h3><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/caKIV81.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"398\" height=\"232\" \/><\/h3>\n<h3>2) Navigate to a news web site<\/h3>\n<p>Try your local newspaper, your school paper, a national news site like The New York Times or CNN.<br \/>\n<em><strong>Don\u2019t worry<\/strong> \u2014 you\u2019re not actually hacking the site for others \u2014 just yourself. You\u2019re changing a local version of the site that only you can see.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>3) Decide on one of these fun remix themes<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The year 2525:<\/strong> What\u2019s on the front page of the paper in the year 2525? Are humans living on the moon yet? Have robots taken over? You decide!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Your Birthday:<\/strong> Write the headlines for the day were born. Do some research to find out what happened that day. What was the weather was like? What song was most popular?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Zombie Apocalypse:<\/strong> It&#8217;s the day after the zombies have risen from the dead &#8211; what is on the cover of the newspaper? Interviews with zombies? Survival tips? Ideas about what caused the spread of Zombie-ism?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>4) Activate the Goggles<\/h3>\n<p>Click the Goggles in your bookmark toolbar to turn them on. Now when you mouse over elements of the news page, you&#8217;ll see the code underneath.<\/p>\n<h3>5) Hit the &#8220;remix&#8221; button<\/h3>\n<p>Hit &#8220;R&#8221; on the keyboard to remix any element.<\/p>\n<h3>6) Change the text and swap in new images<\/h3>\n<p>Try changing the headlines or rewriting some of the stories. Edit some of the links and play with font size and color.<br \/>\nMouse over an image on the page and hit &#8220;R&#8221; \/ &#8220;Remix.&#8221; Then paste in the address\/URL for your new image.<br \/>\n<em><strong>TOP TIP: How to swap an image.<\/strong> First, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/imghp?as_st=y&amp;tbm=isch&amp;as_q=&amp;as_epq=&amp;as_oq=&amp;as_eq=&amp;cr=&amp;as_sitesearch=&amp;safe=images&amp;tbs=sur:f\" target=\"blank\">find an image you like on the web<\/a>. Right-click or control-click on the image you want and select: &#8220;<strong>Copy image location<\/strong>.&#8221; (Or &#8220;Copy image URL&#8221; or &#8220;Copy image address&#8221;, depending on your web browser.) Then paste your new image URL over top of the old one. Once you&#8217;re done, click the Publish button, or press P on your keyboard. This makes your changes visible on the web for others to see.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tweet it<\/strong>. Share the link to your hacked version of the site with the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%23webmaker&amp;src=typd\" target=\"blank\">#webmaker <\/a>hashtag.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Claim your badge.<\/strong> Claim the <a href=\"https:\/\/webmaker.org\/badges\/remixing-maker\">&#8220;Remixing&#8221; badge here<\/a>.
