One of MoFo\u2019s main goals for 2015 is to come up with an ambitious learning and community strategy. The codename for this is \u2018Mozilla Academy\u2019. As a way to get the process rolling, I wrote a long post in March outlining what we might include<\/a> in that strategy. Since then, I\u2019ve been putting together a team<\/a> to dig into the strategy work formally.
\nThis post is an update on that process<\/em> in FAQ form.<\/strong> More substance and meat is coming in future posts. Also, there is lots of info on the wiki<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Q1. What are we trying to do?<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Our main goal is alignment: to get everyone working on Mozilla\u2019s learning and leadership development programs<\/a> pointed in the same direction. The three main places we need to align are:<\/p>\n

  1. Purpose<\/strong>: help people learn and hone the ability to read | write | participate.<\/li>\n
  2. Process<\/strong>: people learn and improve by making things (in a community of like-minded peers).<\/li>\n
  3. Poetry<\/strong>: tie back to \u2018web = public resource\u2019 narrative. Strong Mozilla brand.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    At the end of the year, we will have a unified strategy that connects Mozilla\u2019s learning and leadership development offerings (Webmaker<\/a>, Hive<\/a>, Open News<\/a>, etc.). Right now, we do good work in these areas, but they\u2019re a bit fragmented. We need to fix that by creating a coherent story and common approaches that will increase the impact these programs can have on the world.<\/p>\n

    Q2. What is \u2018Mozilla Academy\u2019?<\/strong><\/h5>\n

    That\u2019s what we\u2019re trying to figure out. At the very least, Mozilla Academy will be a clearly packaged and branded harmonization of Mozilla\u2019s learning and leadership programs. People will be able to clearly understand what we\u2019re doing and which parts are for them. Mozilla Academy may also include a common set of web literacy skills, curriculum format and learning approaches that we use across programs. We are also reviewing the possibility of a shared set of credentials or roles for people participating in Mozilla Academy.<\/p>\n

    Q3. Who is \u2018Mozilla Academy\u2019 for?<\/strong><\/h5>\n

    Over the past few weeks, we\u2019ve started to look at who we\u2019re trying to serve with our existing programs (blog post on this soon). Using the \u2018scale vs depth\u2019 graph in the Mozilla Learning plan as a framework, we see three main audiences:<\/p>\n
