This year the learning space is all about finding ways to <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/mozfest-2016\/demystify-the-web-call-for-proposals-at-mozfest-b96d7965f856#.59qzob8jo\">\u201cDemystify the Web!\u201d<\/a> The big idea is to help each other make sense of the web in playful ways. For example, one day you might explore a \u201chall of mirrors\u201d that shows you how search engines see you; the next day you might attend a workshop on making cardboard arcade games that teach the web.<br \/>\n<b>MozFest needs you<\/b>, your expertise, imagination, and questions to make this space come alive. How would you design an online <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Inflatable_castle\">bounce-house<\/a>? A <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Roller_coaster\">rollercoaster<\/a> model of the web? A <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Haunted_attraction_(simulated)\">haunted house<\/a> of dangers facing the internet?<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/mozillafestival.org\/proposals\"><b>Submit your proposal by August 1st, 2016,<\/b><\/a> to help attendees solve the mysteries of the web and how you can work together to protect the internet as a public resource accessible to all. Help us playfully tackle the challenges of<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Digital Inclusion<\/b> &#8211; Everyone should have the right to participate safely online.<\/li>\n<li><b>Web Literacy<\/b> &#8211; Everyone should have the opportunity to find out why the web matters and what else exists besides the apps they buy.<\/li>\n<li><b>Online Privacy &amp; Security<\/b> &#8211; Everyone should be free from undue surveillance and have control over what they share with others.<\/li>\n<li><b>Open Innovation <\/b>&#8211; Everyone should have a voice and be able to share new ideas outside of paywalls and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Closed_platform\">walled gardens<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><b>Decentralization<\/b> &#8211; Everyone should share ownership of the internet and be able to create their own piece of the web without having to ask permission from a handful of for-profit companies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Imagine the possibilities<\/h1>\n<p><b>You can <a href=\"https:\/\/mozillafestival.org\/proposals\">submit all kinds of proposals<\/a><\/b> that connect to this year\u2019s \u201cDemystify the Web!\u201d theme. Your proposal can be serious or silly as long as it helps people understand the web and empowers them to overcome local and global barriers to full participation online.<br \/>\nConsider possibilities like these:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Demystify the Jargon<\/b> &#8211; create an offline <a href=\"https:\/\/thimbleprojects.org\/chadsansing\/59646\/\">zine<\/a> from remixed media or an online collection of <a href=\"http:\/\/wonderfulworldofwebdesign.tumblr.com\/post\/68979264359\/when-i-dont-understand-why-certain-stock-photos-were\">animated .gifs<\/a> that explain what words like \u201ccode\u201d and \u201copen\u201d mean for web literacy beginners.<\/li>\n<li><b>Walled Garden Carousel <\/b>&#8211; build model <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Carousel\">merry-go-rounds<\/a> out of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.exploratorium.edu\/pie\/downloads\/Cardboard_Automata.pdf\">cardboard automata<\/a> to show how big companies try to keep you going round and round online between their services and apps &#8211; and no one else\u2019s.<\/li>\n<li><b>Web Games Arcade<\/b> &#8211; set up a series of stations that take learners from programming <a href=\"http:\/\/chadsansing.github.io\/color-picker-snake-game\/index.html\">basic games that teach the web<\/a> to building <a href=\"http:\/\/cainesarcade.com\/2016\/04\/4-years-later-earth-day-cardboard-challenge-inventors-challenge\/\">cardboard arcade cabinets<\/a> complete with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digitalharbor.org\/2016\/03\/interactive-games-educators\/\">MaKey MaKey controls<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Follow the clues to London<\/h1>\n<p>This year <a href=\"https:\/\/mozillafestival.org\/\"><b>MozFest<\/b><\/a><b> returns to <\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ravensbourne.ac.uk\/discover-ravensbourne\"><b>Ravensbourne College<\/b><\/a> from October 28th through October 30th, 2016.<br \/>\nRavensbourne is a digital media and design school located in London on the Greenwich digital peninsula. The campus reflects the school\u2019s values of creativity and collaboration with an eight-floor, open interior built for events like MozFest. The festival takes over nearly the entire school and stacks it full of <b>opportunities to build and learn in community<\/b> with artists, educators, journalists, scientists, technologists, youth, and creative, expert, generous people from all over the world.<br \/>\nWhether you\u2019re posing a question or a solution, <b>you belong at MozFest<\/b>. \u00a0If words like \u201copen practices\u201d and \u201cweb mechanics\u201d sound like unsolvable puzzles, then this is the festival for you.
