Bill Mills co-taught at this event, under the mentorship of Greg Wilson in preparation to lead the Research Bazaar&#8217;s Instructor Training workshop <a title=\"resbazConf\" href=\"http:\/\/resbaz.tumblr.com\/conference\" target=\"_blank\">next month<\/a> in Melbourne along with <a title=\"damienIrving\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DrClimate\" target=\"_blank\">Damien Irving<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Otherwise, the Lab was heads-down spooling up our early 2015 roster of events and collaboration; see below and stay tuned!<\/p>\n<h2>Near-Term Forecast<\/h2>\n<p>Our first <a title=\"communityCall\" href=\"https:\/\/etherpad.mozilla.org\/sciencelab-calls-jan15-2015\" target=\"_blank\">Community Call<\/a> of the new year is coming up on <strong>Thursday, January 15 at 11 ET<\/strong>! We&#8217;ll be hearing from <a title=\"chrisLintott\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/chrislintott\" target=\"_blank\">Chris Lintott<\/a> on <a title=\"zooniverse\" href=\"https:\/\/www.zooniverse.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Zooniverse<\/a> and citizen science, and Garret Christensen (<a title=\"bitss\" href=\"http:\/\/bitss.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">BITSS<\/a>) and <a title=\"timErrington\" href=\"https:\/\/osf.io\/alh38\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tim Errington<\/a> (<a title=\"cos\" href=\"http:\/\/centerforopenscience.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Center for Open Science<\/a>) on lessons learned in reproducibility. Find the call-in information and add your own updates on the <a title=\"etherpad\" href=\"https:\/\/etherpad.mozilla.org\/sciencelab-calls-jan15-2015\" target=\"_blank\">etherpad<\/a> &#8211; we hope you&#8217;ll join us!<\/p>\n<p>Also coming up right away on January 12-13 is <a title=\"force11\" href=\"https:\/\/www.force11.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">FORCE11<\/a>, a conference on Research Communications and e-Scholarship &#8211; the Science Lab&#8217;s Kaitlin Thaney is on the advisory board and in attendance there at the start of the week.<\/p>\n<p>Later in the week, Bill will be attending a Software Carpentry workshop hosted by the <a title=\"escience\" href=\"http:\/\/escience.washington.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">eScience Institute<\/a> at the University of Washington, led by a huge lineup of new instructors! We&#8217;re keen to see people we trained succeed, so Bill will be present to help out, give feedback and support their efforts wherever possible.<\/p>\n<p>Early 2015 is going to see a number of new events and collaborations explored by the Science Lab &#8211; Arliss Collins and Bill are discussing how to support engagement beyond the workshop by scaffolding things like study groups, hack nights and meetups, and Abby Cabunoc is polishing off a number of new ideas and implementations to make interacting and collaborating via our online community even more seamless.
