Stay tuned for more details on how Hive NYC members are embracing this tool as a key part of their programs.<\/em><\/header>\n<header><\/header>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/blog\/2012\/11\/11\/popcorn-maker\/mozfest_11nov_004\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5124\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Mozfest_11Nov_004\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/files\/2012\/11\/Mozfest_11Nov_004-600x382.jpg\" height=\"344\" width=\"540\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<em>Brett Gaylor launching Popcorn Maker at the Mozilla Festival on Nov. 11.<\/em><br \/>\nToday at the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mozillafestival.org\">Mozilla Festival<\/a><\/strong>, we\u2019re extremely proud to launch the 1.0 version of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/popcorn.webmaker.org\/\">Popcorn Maker<\/a><\/strong>, a free web app that makes video pop with interactivity, context and the magic of the web.<br \/>\n<strong>Popcorn Maker makes it easy to enhance, remix and share web video<\/strong>. Using Popcorn Maker\u2019s simple drag and drop interface, you can add live content to any video \u2014 photos, maps, links, social media feeds and more. All right from your browser.<br \/>\nThe result is a new way to tell stories on the web, with videos that are rich with context, full of links, and unique each time you watch them.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Popcorn TED interface\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/files\/2012\/10\/TED-Talk-Popcorn-Maker-screen-grab-600x399.png\" height=\"399\" width=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>The Popcorn Maker story<\/h3>\n<p>\u201c<strong>Until now, video on the web has been stuck inside a little black box<\/strong>,\u201d\u00a0says Mozilla\u2019s Director of Popcorn, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/remixmanifesto\">Brett Gaylor<\/a>. \u201cPopcorn Maker changes that, making video work like the rest of the web: hackable, linkable, remixable, and connected to the world around it.\u201d<br \/>\nLast year Mozilla launched <a href=\"http:\/\/popcornjs.org\/\">Popcorn.js<\/a>, a Javascript library for developers that resulted in ground-breaking productions like the NFB\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/blog\/2011\/11\/05\/popcorn-1-0-launch-and-world-premier-of-one-millionth-tower\/\">One Millionth Tower<\/a>, PBS and NPR\u2019s<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/blog\/2012\/10\/11\/adlibs\/\"> 2012 election coverage<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/popcornjs.org\/demos\">more<\/a>.<br \/>\n\u201c<strong>But until now, the power of Popcorn has been available mostly just to developers<\/strong>,\u201d\u00a0 Brett says. \u201cPopcorn Maker puts that power in <em>everyone\u2019s<\/em> hands, through an intuitive interface anyone can use. We\u2019re really excited to see what the world will make with it.\u201d<br \/>\nDeveloped as part of Mozilla\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/webmaker.org\/\">Webmaker<\/a> program, Popcorn Maker is a unique collaboration with filmmakers, developers, young media makers, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/zenit.senecac.on.ca\/wiki\/index.php\/Main_Page\">Centre for Development of Open Technology at Seneca College<\/a>, all working to design and build together.<br \/>\nPopcorn Maker is built entirely using open web elements, written in HTML, CSS and Javascript. \u201cIt\u2019s essentially a web page that makes other web pages.
