The bill comes in response to what May called &#8220;a shocking burial of evidence into places where Canadians will never see it [by the current Canadian federal government].&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Talks &amp; Conferences<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"Posts by Meghana Keshavan\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/megkesh\">Meghana Keshavan<\/a> wrote <a href=\"http:\/\/medcitynews.com\/2015\/06\/open-source-biopharma-deloitte\/\">an article<\/a> describing results presented by Deloitte at the recent BIO Conference in Philadelphia; Deloitte found that open &amp; collaborative drug development lead to three times higher success rates by late stage clinical trials.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/emckiernan13\">Erin McKiernan<\/a> presented <a href=\"http:\/\/figshare.com\/articles\/Open_access_How_researchers_can_be_successful_and_spur_change\/1451304\">strategies for success in open access in research<\/a>, at the CERN Workshop on Innovations in Scholarly Communication.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Blogs &amp; Papers<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/lariviev\">Larivi\u00e8re<\/a> et al published <a href=\"http:\/\/journals.plos.org\/plosone\/article?id=10.1371\/journal.pone.0127502\">a study<\/a> providing evidence that over the past 40 years, the 5 largest scientific publishing firms have further consolidated publishing articles in the natural, medical and social sciences as well as the humanities under their purview. The CBC also picked up <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/technology\/academic-publishers-reap-huge-profits-as-libraries-go-broke-1.3111535\">the story<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wfrick\">Walter Frick<\/a> wrote <a href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2015\/03\/what-to-do-when-people-draw-different-conclusions-from-the-same-data\">an article<\/a> describing a data science study that posed a research question to an ensemble of analysis, to explore strategies for avoiding individual bias.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ingorohlfing\">Ingo Rholfing<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/ingorohlfing.wordpress.com\/2015\/06\/18\/two-proposals-for-incentivizing-data-archiving\/\">blogged<\/a> on the need for negative incentives for data publishing: default retractions for papers that can&#8217;t provide their data, and &#8216;Data Not Available&#8217; warnings printed on or with such papers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Tools &amp; Services<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/medsformalaria\">Medicines for Malaria Venture<\/a> recently <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mmv.org\/computationalchemistry\">noted<\/a> a curated list of freely available tools for doing computational chemistry, specially selected for their relevance to common needs in not-for-profit activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Week in Review is our weekly roundup of what\u2019s new in open science from the past week.
