{"id":3318,"date":"2016-02-08T12:11:13","date_gmt":"2016-02-08T20:11:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mozscienceblog.wpengine.com\/?p=3318"},"modified":"2016-02-08T12:11:13","modified_gmt":"2016-02-08T20:11:13","slug":"wow-wrap-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/foundation-archive\/mozilla-science\/wow-wrap-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Working Open Workshop Wrap-up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The first week in February was a big one for the <a href=\"http:\/\/mozillascience.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mozilla Science Lab.<\/a> We hosted a week-long workweek for our <a href=\"https:\/\/mozillascience.org\/fellows\/2015\" target=\"_blank\">Fellows for Science in Berlin<\/a>, which culminated in a 2-day mini-conference that we called <a href=\"https:\/\/mozillascience.org\/working-open-workshop-february-2016\" target=\"_blank\">WOW, the <b>W<\/b>orking <b>O<\/b>pen <b>W<\/b>orkshop<\/a>. The event featured a mixture of talks and work sessions on open sourcing projects, building capacity in <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/mozillascience\/studygroup\" target=\"_blank\">Mozilla Study Groups<\/a>, and contributing to projects on <a href=\"https:\/\/mozillascience.org\/collaborate\" target=\"_blank\">Collaborate<\/a>, all in preparation for our Global Sprint in June, 2016.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>For the first half of the week, we brought together our 4 fellows and 5 staffers to test curriculum and programming for the workshop to follow, workshop the fellows&#8217; projects and beta-test their prototypes. We punctuated this with a healthy balance of outreach co-organized programming with other meetups, like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.meetup.com\/Hacks-Hackers-Berlin\/events\/228425386\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hacks\/Hackers-Berlin<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.meetup.com\/Berlin-Open-Science-Meetup\/events\/228087017\/\" target=\"_blank\">Berlin Open Science<\/a>, as well as excursions to <a href=\"http:\/\/2016.transmediale.de\/content\/1000-handshakes\" target=\"_blank\">Transmediale<\/a> (a concurrent Art\/Tech Festival) and visits with Berlin&#8217;s FabLab. In the name of &#8220;open,&#8221; you can <a href=\"https:\/\/public.etherpad-mozilla.org\/p\/wow-mslparty\" target=\"_blank\">view our agenda here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>For the latter part of the week, we hosted about 40+ attendees, two Mozilla staffers-at-large, our Fellows and\u00a0 the Science Lab Team for <a href=\"https:\/\/mozillascience.org\/working-open-workshop-february-2016\" target=\"_blank\">WOW<\/a>, a flush 2-day event celebrating open science and global web collaboration. We <a href=\"https:\/\/mozillascience.org\/working-open-workshop-mixer-february-4th\" target=\"_blank\">kicked it off <\/a>with a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.meetup.com\/Berlin-Open-Science-Meetup\/events\/228087017\/\" target=\"_blank\">Berlin Open Science collab meetup<\/a> featuring 10+ lightning talks from the global science community and an audience of almost 100 attendees. Our workshop featured sessions on <a href=\"http:\/\/mozillascience.github.io\/working-open-workshop\/github_for_collaboration\/\" target=\"_blank\">working collaboratively in Github<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/mozillascience.github.io\/working-open-workshop\/data_reuse\/\" target=\"_blank\">packaging open data for re-use<\/a> and developing documentation, as well as planning for inclusive communities, <a href=\"http:\/\/mozillascience.github.io\/working-open-workshop\/code_of_conduct\/\" target=\"_blank\">Code of Conduct creation<\/a>, and open science netiquette.
