Welcome to August! We’d like to remind everyone in the community that next week we’ll be hosting an AWESOME community call on maps and mapped data, and we want you there! For background, the Science Lab community call<\/a> takes place every other\u00a0month, highlighting recent developments and work of the community relevant to science and the web. Join us to hear more about current projects, find out how you can get involved, and listen to others (or yourself!) discuss work in and around open research.<\/p>\n

After a two-month-break, we’re back for our\u00a0next community call<\/a>\u00a0which will take place this coming\u00a0Thursday, August\u00a011th<\/strong>. The call is open to the public and will start at 11:00 am ET<\/strong>. Call in details can be found on the call etherpad<\/a> (where you can also find notes and the agenda) and on the wiki<\/a>. (If you have trouble with the toll-free number, try one of the numbers at the bottom of this post.)<\/p>\n

This month, we’ll be talking about the geospatial sciences, featuring people\u00a0who build open source web maps and mapping tools with scientific and spatial information. We’ll hear from developers at\u00a0Open Knowledge Maps<\/a>, contributors to\u00a0Open Street Map (OSM)<\/a> and UNICEF Innovation, map scientists at Carto<\/a>, science toolkit designers at Esri<\/a>, as well as\u00a0the developer behind\u00a0gamefied\u00a0projects like Uncharted Atlas<\/a>, Minecraft Antarctica<\/a>, and Emoji Atlas<\/a>. \u00a0We’ll also hear our closing updates from our 2015 Mozilla Fellows for Science<\/a>, talk about the their recent workweek<\/a> and talk series at iHub’s Data Jam<\/a> in East Africa, discuss developments on the Science Floor at this year’s Mozfest<\/a>, and provide updates on\u00a0our 2nd Fellowship Call for Applications<\/a>!\u00a0Should be a great call!<\/p>\n

Have an update, blog post or event you’d like to share relevant to open science? Add it to the etherpad<\/a> (see ‘Non Verbal Updates’). It’s a great way to share what you’re working on and\/or interested in with the community. Don’t be shy. Have a look at last month’s notes<\/a> for an idea of what others contributed to the conversation.<\/p>\n
