Since the initial launch <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/blog\/2012\/05\/22\/introducing-mozilla-webmaker\/\">announcement<\/a> on May 22, we&#8217;ve seen:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/webmaker.org\/en-US\/events\/\"><strong>441 Summer Code Party events<\/strong><\/a>. Spread across 68 different countries.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The successful launch of <a href=\"https:\/\/thimble.webmaker.org\/en-US\/\">Mozilla Thimble<\/a>. <\/strong>With <a href=\"http:\/\/delicious.com\/mozilladrumbeat\/press+Thimble\">positive reviews<\/a> and feedback from users.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/delicious.com\/mozilladrumbeat\/press\">Great press<\/a>. <\/strong>87 press mentions for Webmaker in June alone, making this our most successful quarter for press &#8212; surpassing last November&#8217;s\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/openmatt.org\/2011\/11\/11\/mozfest-headlines\/\">Mozilla Festival coverage<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>2,787 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/search\/%23mozparty\">#mozparty<\/a> tweets<\/strong>. With community co-ordinating events, sharing stuff they made with <a href=\"http:\/\/thimble.webmaker.org\">Thimble<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/mozillapopcorn.org\">Popcorn<\/a>, and discussing ways to improve.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" alignnone\" title=\"Summer Code Party India\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8150\/7521897924_e82934700f.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><br \/>\n<strong>More important than the numbers: we&#8217;re building global community<\/strong>. New people are showing up in our <a href=\"https:\/\/wiki.mozilla.org\/Webmakers\/Community_Calls\">community calls<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/mozilladrumbeat\/favorites\/\">Photos<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/mozillawebmaker.tumblr.com\/\">projects<\/a> are coming in from around the world. We&#8217;re gathering valuable <a href=\"http:\/\/erinknight.com\/post\/26630244315\/what-the-numbers-are-telling-us\">feedback<\/a> on how to make the new Webmaker tools and projects better.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"MozParty around the world\" src=\"https:\/\/mozila-webmakers.lighthouseapp.com\/projects\/95184\/tickets\/89\/a\/2481364\/5-join.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"588\" height=\"205\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Who&#8217;s participating?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>People from 68 different countries. <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/mozilladrumbeat\/favorites\/\">People like this<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Learners with a broad range of web skills<\/strong>. <a href=\"http:\/\/erinknight.com\/post\/26630244315\/what-the-numbers-are-telling-us\">Erin Knight&#8217;s early survey data<\/a> suggests most users are coming in with more expertise than we originally anticipated &#8212; but still report learning new things.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Webmaker skills\" src=\"http:\/\/media.tumblr.com\/tumblr_m6p2vvePcb1qeyuvt.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"269\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Communities of mentors and instructors.<\/strong> As Jacob highlighted in yesterday&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/etherpad.mozilla.org\/Jul10\">community call<\/a>, we&#8217;re seeing mentors and community instructors grab onto our tools and curriculum (like Popcorn and <a href=\"http:\/\/maker.mozillapopcorn.org\/storycamp\/\">StoryCamp<\/a>) and adapting them to their local programs and needs &#8212; a key<a href=\"http:\/\/commonspace.wordpress.com\/2012\/06\/21\/planting-seeds\/\"> goal for all our work<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Partners<\/strong>. Two of the most popular projects on webmaker.org have come from partners: the &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/webmaker.org\/en-US\/projects\/customize-your-tumblr-theme\/\">Customize your Tumblr theme<\/a>&#8221; project, for example &#8212; made possible by our partnership with <strong>Tumblr<\/strong> &#8212; and the <a href=\"https:\/\/webmaker.org\/en-US\/projects\/make-your-own-animal\/\">Awesome Animal Builder<\/a> from the <strong>London Zoo<\/strong>. This week we shipped them. They include:<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/webmaker.org\/en-US\/events\/search\/\">Search for events by country or city<\/a>. <\/strong>e.g., &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/webmaker.org\/en-US\/events\/in\/in\/\">India<\/a>&#8221; or &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/webmaker.org\/en-US\/events\/near\/?lat=40.7143528&amp;lng=-74.0059731\">New York<\/a>.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/webmaker.org\/en-US\/events\/all\/\"><strong>See all events<\/strong><\/a>. And also shows some of the best examples of what people are making using <a href=\"http:\/\/thimble.webmaker.org\">Thimble<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/mozillapopcorn.org\">Popcorn<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/webmaker.org\/en-US\/tools\/x-ray-goggles\/install\/\">X-Ray Goggles<\/a> and other tools. We need to make it easier for people to share and submit great work into the Webmaker Tumblr. And eventually through more automated user-generated galleries.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Incorporating user\u00a0 and community feedback into a larger Webmaker.org re-design effort<\/strong>. Some highlights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/webmaker.org\/en-US\/projects\/make-your-own-animal\/\">The Awesome Animal Builder<\/a>. <\/strong>This project has proven especially popular. <a href=\"http:\/\/mozillawebmaker.tumblr.com\/post\/26976691614\/check-out-the-mozthimble-page-my-wife-just-made\">Here&#8217;s one example<\/a>.<strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/openmatt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/blimnocerous.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" title=\"blimnocerous\" src=\"http:\/\/openmatt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/blimnocerous.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"312\" height=\"182\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/webmaker.org\/en-US\/projects\/robot-invasion\/\">Robot Invasion videos<\/a>.<\/strong> The new <a href=\"http:\/\/maker.mozillapopcorn.org\/\">Popcorn templates<\/a> make it easy to produce a winning result fast. It feels like people are now intuitively &#8220;getting it&#8221; and seeing the creative potential for Popcorn in ways that were harder before. (See Jacob&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/futuresoup.com\/the-sights-and-sounds-of-storycamp\/\">latest post<\/a> on the sights and sounds of Popcorn&#8217;s StoryCamp, for example.)<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/webmaker.org\/en-US\/projects\/customize-your-tumblr-theme\/\">Customzing Tumblr templates<\/a>.<\/strong> As a gateway to learning HTML and CSS.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Making the web physical.<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/productresearch.dundee.ac.uk\/?p=1075\">MozParty Dundee<\/a>, in Scotland, focused on hands-on hacking that blended the digital and the physical. From a physical blue bird that flaps its wings every time someone tweets &#8220;#MozParty,&#8221; to maneuvering Google Maps street view with a <a href=\"http:\/\/productresearch.dundee.ac.uk\/?p=1075\">joystick<\/a>.\u00a0(This mix of physical and web hacking feels super rich &#8212; lots to think about for this year&#8217;s <strong>Mozilla Festival<\/strong> in November.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"width: 370px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" \" title=\"twitter bird\" src=\"http:\/\/productresearch.dundee.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/daniela_tweetbird.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"222\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Every time you tweet #MozParty, this bird flaps its wings<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Making mobile apps. <\/strong>At MozParties in Zurich and Bucharest.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"mobile app MozParty\" src=\"http:\/\/24.media.tumblr.com\/tumblr_m69romCzHz1rvkpqxo1_500.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Tying in Mozilla&#8217;s larger mission and work<\/strong>. The Mozilla India team and <a href=\"https:\/\/wiki.mozilla.org\/ReMo\">ReMo<\/a> members, for example, have been using the Summer Code Party as a tie-in and jumping off point for Firefox localization work and more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"How fun was the Mozilla Webmaker project you did?\" src=\"http:\/\/media.tumblr.com\/tumblr_m6p4pkOcyi1qeyuvt.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"296\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>What do the numbers tell us?<\/h3>\n<p>So far we&#8217;ve got:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Survey feedback on the new Mozilla Thimble projects<\/strong>. <a href=\"http:\/\/erinknight.com\/post\/26630244315\/what-the-numbers-are-telling-us\">Erin Knight&#8217;s post<\/a> tells the story and take-aways from the survey feedback we&#8217;re getting.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Social media and email growth<\/strong>. We continue to see good growth, plus the addition of Tumblr, with 2000+ followers in our first two weeks. Ross shared some early metrics from webmaker.org in yesterday&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/etherpad.mozilla.org\/Jul10\">community call<\/a>. But we have lots of work to do on improving how we collect this data and make it actionable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Let's make the web easy to write\" src=\"http:\/\/commonspace.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/07\/20120629_134713-001.jpg?w=480&amp;h=183\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"183\" \/><\/h3>\n<h3>What&#8217;s next?<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Roadmapping<\/strong>. <a href=\"http:\/\/commonspace.wordpress.com\/2012\/07\/02\/tools-for-webmakers\/\">Mark Surman<\/a> has outlined some thinking, questions and next steps around the roadmap for Webmaker tools. In Tuesday&#8217;s community call, we&#8217;ll dive into this in more depth.<br \/>\nThe Popcorn, Thimble and Webmaker.org teams have been doing roadmap work as well.
