It starts with <a href=\"https:\/\/webmaker.org\/en-US\/projects\/\">projects<\/a>: users make (amazing) things, \u2028learning about the technology and culture of the web as they go.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>In 2012<\/strong> we built the Webmaker brand, product and community.<strong> <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>In 2013<\/strong> we&#8217;ll refine, recruit and get more people using it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Big picture goal<\/strong>: Turn our basic Webmaker offering into \u2028a product people love. Our belief: people need skills and inspiration to build the web we want. What did we accomplish?<br \/>\n<strong>1) We shipped new products. <\/strong>Going from prototype \/ alpha to public release for<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/webmaker.org\">Webmaker.org<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/popcorn.webmaker.org\/\">Popcorn Maker\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/thimble.webmaker.org\/\">Thimble<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/blog\/2012\/11\/10\/webmaker-badges\/\">Webmaker Badges<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/openbadges.org\/\">Open Badges<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/openmatt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Mozilla-Webmaker-tools-and-badges.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Mozilla Webmaker tools and badges\" src=\"http:\/\/openmatt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Mozilla-Webmaker-tools-and-badges-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"526\" height=\"295\" \/><\/a><\/h2>\n<p><strong>2) We built a core community. <\/strong>Approximately 1000 instructors and mentors around the world, showing people how to make things on the web. <strong><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Our <a href=\"http:\/\/explorecreateshare.org\/\">Hive NYC<\/a> project is now also a model<\/strong> for emerging instructor networks in Toronto, London, Athens and SF.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/openmatt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Mozilla-Webmaker-mentors-and-community-montages.001.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Mozilla Webmaker mentors and community -- montages.001\" src=\"http:\/\/openmatt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Mozilla-Webmaker-mentors-and-community-montages.001-1024x250.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"142\" \/><\/a> <strong><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>3) We built Mozilla partnerships and leadership<\/strong>: Mozilla is now established as a \u2028key player in digital making and learning. Our <a href=\"https:\/\/webmaker.org\/en-US\/hall-of-fame\/\">Summer Code Party<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/mozillafestival.org\">Mozilla Festival<\/a>, UK campaign, and efforts around SOPA\/PIPA have brought partners and attention to our cause.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/openmatt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Mozilla-Summer-Code-Party-map.jpg\" alt=\"http:\/\/openmatt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Mozilla-Summer-Code-Party-map.jpg\" width=\"517\" height=\"268\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>What&#8217;s next?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Goal #1<\/strong>: <strong>make Webmaker a popular way to make, animate and remix content from across the web<\/strong>. Secret weapon: Popcorn as core feature, + Thimble and the X-Ray Goggles.\n<ul>\n<li><em>metric: 1M users \/ 250k makers<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Goal #2<\/strong>: <strong>build better ways to level up skills, craft and code as you make<\/strong>. New feature: badges tied to social tools to encourage mentorship and critique.\n<ul>\n<li><em>metric: 1M badges in 2013<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Goal #3<\/strong>: <strong>grow our global community of mentors to power Webmaker<\/strong>. How: merge Summer Code Party with Hive, \u2028add to new geographies + run year-round\n<ul>\n<li><em>metric: 10x mentors \/ instructors<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/openmatt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Mozilla-Webmaker-mentors-and-community-montages.003.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Mozilla Webmaker mentors and community -- montages.003\" src=\"http:\/\/openmatt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Mozilla-Webmaker-mentors-and-community-montages.003.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"516\" height=\"130\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Core to our strategy<\/strong>:<strong> find, promote and \u2028build content to show off \u2028unique features of our tools<\/strong>. This moves beyond our current idea of <a href=\"https:\/\/webmaker.org\/en-US\/projects\/\">projects<\/a>. It starts with things people want to share, then bakes in learning.<\/p>\n<h2>The three most important things for our tools:<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Consolidate<\/strong> Webmaker tools, \u2028putting Popcorn at the center<\/li>\n<li><strong>Scale<\/strong> our web literacy vision, put our badges everywhere<\/li>\n<li><strong>Infect<\/strong> social networks with remixable content<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>If we succeed in 2013:<\/strong> Webmaker will be a well-known tool for making a new kind of content. We will see traction amongst \u2028makers (250k) and mentors (10k).
