Our long-standing partner, Unity <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.unity3d.com\/2015\/12\/07\/unity-5-3-webgl-updates\" target=\"_blank\">announced today<\/a> that it is removing the preview label from its WebGL export functionality as of Unity 5.3. Over the past six months Unity and browser makers have been pushing hard to address quality and performance issues to offer developers full support for creating titles using this technology.<\/p>\n<p>We wanted to give an update on all of Mozilla\u2019s efforts to drive Web gaming online. In brief, we continue to see growing support from other browser providers for the Web technologies \u2014 including Mozilla-pioneered <a href=\"http:\/\/asmjs.org\" target=\"_blank\">asm.js<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.khronos.org\/webgl\" target=\"_blank\">WebGL<\/a> \u2014 that empower developers to build amazing game experiences.<\/p>\n<h4><b>Adoption by Other Browser Makers<\/b><\/h4>\n<p>The Web game stack is a collection of Web technologies that \u2014 when brought together \u2014 empower developers to build high-end video game experiences for users. We continue to see strong support for the Web games technology stack across browsers. The WebGL graphics API has already <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/blog\/2014\/11\/03\/the-web-as-a-commercial-platform-for-games-gathers-momentum\" target=\"_blank\">spread across all browsers<\/a>. And since our <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/futurereleases\/2015\/07\/02\/mozilla-games-technology-roadmap\" target=\"_blank\">last update<\/a>, other browsers have made significant strides in their asm.js implementation.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft\u2019s Edge browser has <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.windows.com\/msedgedev\/2015\/11\/10\/supercharging-javascript-performance-with-asm-js\" target=\"_blank\">enabled targeted asm.js optimization by default<\/a>, and Google\u2019s Chrome browser <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chromestatus.com\/features#asm\" target=\"_blank\">added asm.js to their status tracking board<\/a> as a defacto standard. In addition, Safari has also made improvements to asm.js performance with the release of their <a href=\"http:\/\/[https:\/\/www.webkit.org\/blog\/3362\/introducing-the-webkit-ftl-jit\" target=\"_blank\">FTLJIT optimizations<\/a> last year, and included asm.js code in their benchmark <a href=\"http:\/\/browserbench.org\/JetStream\" target=\"_blank\">JetStream<\/a>. Firefox, Chrome, Edge, and Safari can now run Unity WebGL on the desktop.<\/p>\n<h4><b>Games<\/b><\/h4>\n<p>All of this support has led to exploration and interest from game developers. EVERYDAYiPLAY shipped <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=dhP5tR1KIss\">Heroes of Paragon<\/a> on the Web via Facebook. To quote Vincent Vergonjeanne, EVERYDAYiPLAY\u2019s CEO and Founder, \u201cToday we have a Web game with awesome performance running friction-free in all contemporary browsers. We also launched the game on mobile at the same time, and are excited to state that our initial launch data shows the Web version is outperforming both iOS and Android. People are spending more and playing longer when playing on the Web!&#8221; Heroes of Paragon is now available to play <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.facebook.com\/heroesofp\">one click away<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/futurereleases\/files\/2015\/12\/Heroes-Of-Paragon-iOS-Android-02.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2339 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/futurereleases\/files\/2015\/12\/Heroes-Of-Paragon-iOS-Android-02-600x319.jpg\" alt=\"Heroes Of Paragon\" width=\"600\" height=\"319\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/futurereleases\/files\/2015\/12\/Heroes-Of-Paragon-iOS-Android-02-600x319.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/futurereleases\/files\/2015\/12\/Heroes-Of-Paragon-iOS-Android-02-252x134.jpg 252w, https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/futurereleases\/files\/2015\/12\/Heroes-Of-Paragon-iOS-Android-02.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4><b>The Future<\/b><\/h4>\n<p>We continue to work with other browser makers on improving the potential of games on the Web. Mozilla is working on technologies such as <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/WebAssembly\/design\/blob\/master\/README.md\" target=\"_blank\">WebAssembly<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2v6iLpY7j5M\" target=\"_blank\">WebGL 2<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/lars-t-hansen.github.io\/ecmascript_sharedmem\/shmem.html\" target=\"_blank\">SharedArrayBuffer<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/tc39.github.io\/ecmascript_simd\" target=\"_blank\">SIMD<\/a> support which promise to enable ever better experiences.
