{"id":5979,"date":"2011-01-25T08:33:50","date_gmt":"2011-01-25T15:33:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/5.763"},"modified":"2011-01-25T08:33:50","modified_gmt":"2011-01-25T15:33:50","slug":"student-outreach-update-on-bauhaus-universities-open-interaction-design-course","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/labs\/2011\/01\/student-outreach-update-on-bauhaus-universities-open-interaction-design-course\/","title":{"rendered":"Student Outreach: Update on Bauhaus Universities &#8216;Open Interaction Design&#8217; course"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.uni-weimar.de\/cms\/universitaet.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/mozillalabs.com\/conceptseries\/files\/2010\/11\/Bauhaus-University-Logo_Pantone308.png\" alt=\"Bauhaus University logo\" width=\"204\" height=\"52\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Back in November we reported that Mozilla Labs would be supporting a group of 15 students from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uni-weimar.de\/cms\/universitaet.html\">Bauhaus University<\/a> in Weimar, Germany as they embarked on a course of &#8216;Open Interaction Design&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Today we like to give you an update to the students progress and other activities that are in the pipeline.<\/p>\n<h2>Background<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uni-weimar.de\/medien\/wiki\/IFD:Designing_For_Action\">&#8216;Designing for Action&#8217; course<\/a> &#8211; conducted by Prof. Jens Geelhaar and Jan Dittrich &#8211; challenges the students to design solutions to overcome today&#8217;s problems of information overload while surfing the internet and the re-findability of the valuable webpages. <\/p>\n<p>The course teaches the basics of interaction design and challenges exploration into the design of user-centered software in the open.<\/p>\n<p>All phases of outputs and course-ware will be released to the public under Creative Commons open licensing via the Media Faculties Wiki. This includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.uni-weimar.de\/medien\/wiki\/IFD:Course_Interaction_Design\">course structure and notes<\/a><\/li>\n<li>research<\/li>\n<li>ideation<\/li>\n<li>wire-framing<\/li>\n<li>prototyping<\/li>\n<li>final proposals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What&#8217;s next?<\/h2>\n<p>The students are very close to completing the first phase of the project. Mozilla Labs have arranged various means to support the initiative via multiple channels:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>social media coverage (blogs etc.)<\/li>\n<li>guest lectures<\/li>\n<li>mentoring<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/webuser.uni-weimar.de\/~fudo5114\/PrototypingSession1-2011_Paperparts_IMG_0019.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Paper prototyping\" src=\"http:\/\/webuser.uni-weimar.de\/~fudo5114\/PrototypingSession1-2011_Paperparts_IMG_0019.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Paper prototype UI elements<\/p><\/div>\n<h4>Social media coverage<\/h4>\n<p>We will actively publish blog posts outlining the Phase 1 outputs from the different teams. These posts will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>initial concepts<\/li>\n<li>sketches<\/li>\n<li>wire-frames<\/li>\n<li>prototypes<\/li>\n<li>user testing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Guest lectures<\/h4>\n<p>We have lined up two exciting guest lectures for the students. These will be conducted by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/jinghuaz\">Jinghua Zhang<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; Mozilla Labs User Research Catalyst and <a href=\"http:\/\/testpilot.mozillalabs.com\/\">Test Pilot program<\/a> lead<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/elreiss\">Eric Reiss<\/a><\/strong> &amp; <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/sorenmuus\">S\u00f8ren Muus<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; CEO &amp; Creative Director respectively of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fatdux.com\/\">FatDUX<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We hope to be able to provide video from these guest lectures at a later date. Be sure to watch this space!<\/p>\n<h4>Mentoring<\/h4>\n<p>We have lined up a handful of internationally recognised UX professionals to provide the students with some mentoring feedback &#8211; with focus on a few core usability lens. <\/p>\n<p>After a initial virtual group meet, each mentor will have two teams assigned to themselves.
