[Note: we&#8217;re also learning a lot about how to build buzz and make teasers from the PR team.]\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"mw-headline\" id=\"Market_Insights_from_the_Market_Strategy_Team\">Market Insights from the Market Strategy Team<\/h2>\n<h3 class=\"mw-headline\" id=\"Desktop_.2F_Platform\">Desktop \/ Platform<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li> A federal appeals court in Washington struck down the FCC&#8217;s rules for Net neutrality while upholding the FCC&#8217;s right to regulate broadband access <a class=\"external autonumber\" href=\"http:\/\/www.scribd.com\/doc\/199616222\/DC-Net-Neutrality-ruling\" rel=\"nofollow\">[1]<\/a> which has numerous repercussions.<a class=\"external autonumber\" href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/business\/la-fi-fcc-net-neutrality-20140115,0,7350475.story\" rel=\"nofollow\">[2]<\/a>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li> According to Net Applications, in December Windows 8\/8.1 gained 1.19% of desktop OS market share to go to 10.49% of total desktop. <a class=\"external autonumber\" href=\"http:\/\/www.netmarketshare.com\/operating-system-market-share.aspx?qprid=8&amp;qpcustomd=0\" rel=\"nofollow\">[3]<\/a> Windows overall lost 0.15% along with OS X which lost 0.02%, while Linux gained 0.17%, a trend visible through 2013 and attributable to adoption of Steam <a class=\"external autonumber\" href=\"http:\/\/hothardware.com\/News\/Steam-On-Linux-Adoption-Gaining-Overtaking-Mac-OS\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">[4]<\/a> and OpenStack <a class=\"external autonumber\" href=\"http:\/\/www.openstack.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">[5]<\/a> on Linux. Meanwhile IE11 gained 7.15% market share of unique users on desktop, stealing share from IE10 and IE9 (XP users cannot upgrade beyond IE8).
