{"id":312,"date":"2009-01-27T11:36:43","date_gmt":"2009-01-27T18:36:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/?p=312"},"modified":"2019-09-18T12:07:08","modified_gmt":"2019-09-18T19:07:08","slug":"how-do-users-interact-with-mozillacom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/2009\/01\/27\/how-do-users-interact-with-mozillacom\/","title":{"rendered":"How Do Users Interact with mozilla.com?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As we&#8217;ve found <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/2008\/11\/06\/firefox-usage-and-europe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">before<\/a>, sometimes the simplest analysis can deliver the most startling visualization or impact.\u00a0 Our latest example revolves around traffic to www.mozilla.com.\u00a0 Looking at nearly 1.5 Billion page views over the past six months, here is the portfolio of pages visited:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/files\/2009\/01\/pie_all_traffic.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-313\" title=\"pie_all_traffic\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/files\/2009\/01\/pie_all_traffic.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"499\" height=\"347\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The chart above shows us two different flavors of pages \u2013 what I would describe as &#8220;product driven&#8221; and &#8220;user driven&#8221;.\u00a0 Visits to product driven pages are directly associated with the Firefox product itself.\u00a0 For example, when a user downloads Firefox, he\/she automatically hits our download confirmation page (download.html).\u00a0 When a user successfully installs Firefox, he\/she sees our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mozilla.com\/en-US\/firefox\/3.0.5\/firstrun\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">firstrun page<\/a>.\u00a0 And when there&#8217;s a Firefox update or release, the user hits our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mozilla.com\/en-US\/firefox\/3.0.5\/whatsnew\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">whatsnew<\/a>, or update, page.\u00a0 These &#8220;product driven&#8221; page views &#8212; the three biggest slices that you see above &#8212; account for 70% of the total traffic at www.mozilla.com.<\/p>\n<p>(Please note that the numbers for some pages include both en-US and localized traffic, whereas other pages only apply to en-US.)<\/p>\n<p>Conversely, I would describe &#8220;user driven&#8221; traffic as a user making a conscious decision to view a particular page.\u00a0 This includes visits to our homepage, the main Firefox product page, and other typical pages found within the www.mozilla.com site.\u00a0 This category of pages accounts for 30% of our traffic.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/files\/2009\/01\/pie_user_driven_traffic.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-314\" title=\"pie_user_driven_traffic\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/files\/2009\/01\/pie_user_driven_traffic.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"499\" height=\"350\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>What stands out above?<\/p>\n<p>The <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mozilla.com\/en-US\/firefox\/central\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Getting Started page<\/a><\/strong>.
