{"id":3358,"date":"2010-04-14T16:10:43","date_gmt":"2010-04-14T23:10:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/?p=3358"},"modified":"2019-09-18T12:05:36","modified_gmt":"2019-09-18T19:05:36","slug":"web-analytics-and-mozilla-websites","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/2010\/04\/14\/web-analytics-and-mozilla-websites\/","title":{"rendered":"Web Analytics and Mozilla Websites"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few years ago, Mozilla made a change in web analytics tools to help us better understand traffic at Mozilla\u2019s websites and handle our volume as one of the world\u2019s largest web properties.\u00a0 At the time, Mitchell led a discussion about how we would make sure that our web analytics program is consistent with Mozilla&#8217;s deep commitment to privacy and user control.\u00a0 This discussion resulted in a <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.lizardwrangler.com\/2008\/04\/09\/mozilla-websites-web-analytics-and-privacy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">series of commitments<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As part of that original proposal, we note Mozilla web sites <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mozilla.com\/en-US\/third-party.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">relying on<\/a> our web analytics tool. And fast forwarding to present day, we\u2019d like to be able to assist all Mozilla web sites that request analytics support with our web analytics tool; we&#8217;re also making a switch in tools to Webtrends.\u00a0 Our fundamental commitments to user privacy remain unchanged:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mozilla will use the web analytics data only to determine aggregate usage patterns for our website. We will not seek to determine personal information from this data.<\/li>\n<li>Our tool provider will use the data from Mozilla websites only to provide and maintain the service for Mozilla; it will not share the information with others or use the information for other purposes.<\/li>\n<li>Our tool provider will not correlate and report on any Customer Data with any other data collected through other products, services or web properties.<\/li>\n<li>The domain names in Mozilla cookies will clearly identify their affiliation with Mozilla and the vendor providing the service.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These improvements have the potential for fostering a greater impact with web analytics within the community, while simultaneously maintaining our commitments to individual users.
