With an upcoming initiative, we&#8217;ve set out to improve the user&#8217;s experience at one specific moment in time \u2013 the installation process.<\/p>\n<p>We know that about <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/2009\/01\/07\/a-users-experience-when-downloading-firefox\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">one in every seven<\/a> Firefox downloaders complete the download process, but don&#8217;t actually install Firefox.\u00a0  We&#8217;re also guessing that some percentage of people who do complete the installation process might traverse a less than optimal experience.<\/p>\n<p>So what can we do about this?<\/p>\n<p>Ask people if they&#8217;re interested in leaving feedback during that precise moment in time.<\/p>\n<p>While an organization or community can spend all day doing data analysis to solve a problem, sometimes the best way to figure something out is to just ask people directly what they&#8217;re feeling.\u00a0  To accomplish this, we&#8217;re making the following change to the Firefox installer.\u00a0  If a user clicks &#8220;Cancel&#8221; during the installation process (Windows), he\/she has traditionally seen the following:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/files\/2009\/02\/cancel_from_installer_confirmquestion2.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-434 aligncenter\" title=\"cancel_from_installer_confirmquestion2\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/files\/2009\/02\/cancel_from_installer_confirmquestion2.png\" alt=\"cancel_from_installer_confirmquestion2\" width=\"506\" height=\"388\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/files\/2009\/02\/cancel_from_installer_confirmquestion2.png 506w, https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/files\/2009\/02\/cancel_from_installer_confirmquestion2-300x230.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 506px) 100vw, 506px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>By testing a new capability allowing users to leave feedback, the revised installer will change the &#8220;are you sure question&#8221; to look like this:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/files\/2009\/02\/cancel-install.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-435 aligncenter\" title=\"cancel-install\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/files\/2009\/02\/cancel-install.png\" alt=\"cancel-install\" width=\"455\" height=\"259\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/files\/2009\/02\/cancel-install.png 455w, https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/files\/2009\/02\/cancel-install-300x170.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 455px) 100vw, 455px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Our plan is to run this modified installer for a single day (sometime in March) and see what findings we arrive at before considering making such a change permanent.\u00a0  There are a few things to note here:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> The default would be an unchecked check box.<\/li>\n<li> The image above is only a mock-up.\u00a0  The actual modified installer will likely look somewhat different.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So, what happens if a user indicates they&#8217;re interested in providing feedback?\u00a0  Stay tuned for a follow-up post\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;re obsessed with improving a person&#8217;s experience with Firefox at every turn, from finding Firefox, to downloading\/installing Firefox, to actually using Firefox, to uninstalling Firefox.
