{"id":608,"date":"2009-06-16T10:56:38","date_gmt":"2009-06-16T17:56:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/?p=608"},"modified":"2019-09-18T12:05:41","modified_gmt":"2019-09-18T19:05:41","slug":"places-stats-analysis-in-the-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/2009\/06\/16\/places-stats-analysis-in-the-open\/","title":{"rendered":"Places Stats &#8211; Analysis in the Open"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was excited to see Andy Edmonds&#8217; <a href=\"http:\/\/surfmind.com\/muzings\/?p=339\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">post<\/a> yesterday about Places Stats.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not every day that we see someone in the Mozilla community talking about R, a popular statistical package.<\/p>\n<p>Places is <a href=\"https:\/\/wiki.mozilla.org\/Places\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">described as<\/a> &#8220;a system for storing bookmarks, history, and other user information about the Web, intended to improve developer access to this data and make it easier for people to Bookmark pages.&#8221;\u00a0 So far, several hundred people have volunteered to participate, and a <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/adw\/2009\/03\/25\/places-stats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">few<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/surfmind.com\/muzings\/?p=339\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">folks<\/a> have started to put some framework ideas around analyses that could ultimately lead to useful insights.<\/p>\n<p>I followed up with Andy to ask about his early analysis, and here&#8217;s a high-level summary he shared:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>30% of users use tags heavily.\u00a0 An additional 20% of users have tried tagging once or twice and didn&#8217;t continue for one reason or another.<\/li>\n<li>Over the years, people seem to be visiting more and more different pages (revisitation rate is decreasing).\u00a0 This is likely a reflection of the growing content on the web and the growing relevance of the web to more aspects of people&#8217;s lives, but is also likely an artifact of the more dynamic nature of the web.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you&#8217;re interested in participating\/collaborating in this stats project, check out <a href=\"http:\/\/surfmind.com\/muzings\/?p=339\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Andy&#8217;s post<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was excited to see Andy Edmonds&#8217; post yesterday about Places Stats.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not every day that we see someone in the Mozilla community talking about R, a popular statistical package.
