within China and India"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Google recently released a service called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/insights\/search\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Insights for Search<\/a>, which appears to be a high powered version of Google Trends.\u00a0 As other keen folks have already pointed out, there&#8217;s a bunch of cool analysis that can be done with this new tool \u2013 and the display capabilities make the resulting insights potentially much more useful.\u00a0 See <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techcrunch.com\/2008\/08\/12\/if-you-are-a-techcrunch-reader-outside-of-california-raise-your-hand\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/geekfun.com\/2008\/08\/12\/mudwrestling-slippery-data-google-insights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/andrewchen.typepad.com\/andrew_chens_blog\/2008\/08\/early-adopters-vs-the-mainstream-google-insights-points-out-websites-only-used-by-silicon-valley-nerds.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a> for some examples.<\/p>\n<p>From Mozilla&#8217;s perspective, we can compare the popularity of the search word &#8220;firefox&#8221; across world regions, time periods, or against other search terms &#8211; and with much more drill-down built on top of that.\u00a0 Pulling an initial example of how this might be relevant for Mozilla, I decided to look at &#8220;firefox&#8221;in two regions \u2013 India and China \u2013 and see how the proliferation of this search term has grown over time (2005 vs. the past twelve months).\u00a0 Intuitively, such analysis should give us a clue as to which specific areas within China and India have been changing the most in recent years (wrt awareness of Firefox).<\/p>\n<p><strong>India 2005:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/insights\/search\/#cat=&amp;q=firefox&amp;geo=IN&amp;date=1%2F2005%2012m&amp;clp=&amp;cmpt=date\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/wiki.mozilla.org\/images\/c\/cd\/India_2005.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"491\" height=\"303\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>India Recently:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/insights\/search\/#cat=&amp;q=firefox&amp;geo=IN&amp;date=today%2012-m&amp;clp=&amp;cmpt=date\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/wiki.mozilla.org\/images\/4\/4e\/India_now.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"494\" height=\"302\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>China 2005:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/insights\/search\/#cat=&amp;q=firefox&amp;geo=CN&amp;date=1%2F2005%2012m&amp;clp=&amp;cmpt=date\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/wiki.mozilla.org\/images\/4\/48\/China_2005.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"497\" height=\"303\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>China Recently:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/insights\/search\/#cat=&amp;q=firefox&amp;geo=CN&amp;date=today%2012-m&amp;clp=&amp;cmpt=date\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/wiki.mozilla.org\/images\/e\/e7\/China_now.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"497\" height=\"304\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Which cities showed the greatest spike in Firefox interest?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In India:\u00a0 Delhi and Surat were the biggest gainers<\/li>\n<li>In China:\u00a0 Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Suzhou showed the biggest interest increase over time<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Note: this latter analysis was found by downloading the full reports in csv format.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Google recently released a service called Insights for Search, which appears to be a high powered version of Google Trends.\u00a0 As other keen folks have already pointed out, there&#8217;s a bunch of cool analysis that can be done with this &hellip;
