{"id":646,"date":"2009-06-30T15:08:40","date_gmt":"2009-06-30T22:08:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/?p=646"},"modified":"2019-09-18T12:05:41","modified_gmt":"2019-09-18T19:05:41","slug":"live-tracking-of-firefox-35-adoption-part-ii","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/2009\/06\/30\/live-tracking-of-firefox-35-adoption-part-ii\/","title":{"rendered":"Live Tracking of Firefox 3.5 Adoption (part II)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier today, we highlighted some real-time tracking by <a href=\"http:\/\/whos.amung.us\/firefox\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">whos.amung.us<\/a>.\u00a0 Next up, we have another visualization engine for today&#8217;s Firefox 3.5 launch \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/downloadstats.mozilla.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">downloadstats.mozilla.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/downloadstats.mozilla.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-647 aligncenter\" title=\"mostats_live_tracking\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/files\/2009\/06\/mostats_live_tracking.png\" alt=\"mostats_live_tracking\" width=\"514\" height=\"589\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/files\/2009\/06\/mostats_live_tracking.png 514w, https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/files\/2009\/06\/mostats_live_tracking-261x300.png 261w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 514px) 100vw, 514px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This was a somewhat stealth (i.e., surprise) project brought about by our very own Daniel Einspanjer (in collaboration with the folks at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sqlstream.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SQLstream<\/a>).\u00a0 (Thanks to the Mozilla web dev team as well.)<\/p>\n<p>Similar to the real-time tracking presented at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spreadfirefox.com\/en-US\/worldrecord\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Spread Firefox<\/a> last year, we set out to provide a similar visualization whereby everyone could see downloads happening in real-time \u2013 across every corner of the globe.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll notice several cool things within this new visualization \u2013 a lit dot for every actual download of Fx3.5;\u00a0 a &#8220;current&#8221;, &#8220;minimum&#8221;, and &#8220;maximum&#8221; per second download rate for every country (along with a trend over the past minute);\u00a0 and a &#8220;total&#8221; or cumulative number of downloads since Fx3.5 was launched this morning (PDT).<\/p>\n<p>In case you&#8217;re really curious, here are a couple comparable numbers from Firefox 3&#8217;s wildly successful Download Day last June&#8230; in its first 24-hours after launch, the &#8220;max&#8221; per second download rate was approx. 283 and the &#8220;average&#8221; was approx. 95.\u00a0 Please keep in mind that the two product launches are not quite apples-to-apples, but these numbers are still interesting to know from simply a context perspective.<\/p>\n<p>Enjoy the <a href=\"http:\/\/downloadstats.mozilla.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">live, interactive map<\/a>!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier today, we highlighted some real-time tracking by whos.amung.us.\u00a0 Next up, we have another visualization engine for today&#8217;s Firefox 3.5 launch \u2013 downloadstats.mozilla.com.
