{"id":692,"date":"2009-07-21T14:28:24","date_gmt":"2009-07-21T21:28:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/?p=692"},"modified":"2019-09-18T12:05:40","modified_gmt":"2019-09-18T19:05:40","slug":"regional-patterns-in-firefox-adoption","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/2009\/07\/21\/regional-patterns-in-firefox-adoption\/","title":{"rendered":"Regional Patterns in Firefox Adoption"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, we looked at which regions have shown the fastest and slowest <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/2009\/07\/16\/people-in-vietnam-love-firefox-3-5\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">adoption rates of Firefox 3.5<\/a>.\u00a0 Asa had a great idea to expand on this analysis \u2013 why not visualize it through a global map to more easily see if there are any overarching patterns across particular regions?<\/p>\n<p>So, we took our Firefox usage data from the past week, uploaded it to IBM&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/manyeyes.alphaworks.ibm.com\/manyeyes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">manyeyes project<\/a> (which we previously mentioned <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/2008\/09\/04\/visualizing-data-in-new-ways\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>), and created the following visualization.\u00a0 The image below shows Fx3.5 adoption by region.\u00a0 You&#8217;ll notice that there seems to be relatively more dark shaded areas around Russia and Asia.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-695\" title=\"fx35_usage_map\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/files\/2009\/07\/fx35_usage_map.png\" alt=\"fx35_usage_map\" width=\"517\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/files\/2009\/07\/fx35_usage_map.png 517w, https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/files\/2009\/07\/fx35_usage_map-300x208.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 517px) 100vw, 517px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you want to explore this visualization further, you can visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/manyeyes.alphaworks.ibm.com\/manyeyes\/visualizations\/firefox-usage-by-firefox-version\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">manyeyes page<\/a> or simply click on the &#8220;interact&#8221; button below.\u00a0 You&#8217;ll notice that with the drop-down menu near the upper left-hand corner, you can select the Firefox version &#8212; Fx2, Fx3.0, or Fx3.5 &#8212; you&#8217;re interested in viewing stats for.\u00a0 This should also come in handy for detecting regions where Fx2 usage is still significant (which we previously explored <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/2009\/02\/06\/some-firefox-users-still-on-fx2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><script src=\"http:\/\/manyeyes.alphaworks.ibm.com\/manyeyes\/visualizations\/7d8d8500763711deaf87000255111976\/comments\/7d94a376763711deaf87000255111976.js?width=400&amp;height=350\" type=\"text\/javascript\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Would you like to see this type of data updated regularly?
