{"id":87,"date":"2008-08-21T17:51:09","date_gmt":"2008-08-22T00:51:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/?p=87"},"modified":"2019-09-18T12:07:11","modified_gmt":"2019-09-18T19:07:11","slug":"explaining-a-traffic-spike-at-mozillacom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/2008\/08\/21\/explaining-a-traffic-spike-at-mozillacom\/","title":{"rendered":"Explaining a Traffic Spike at mozilla.com"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Many within the Mozilla community were excited to see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comscore.com\/press\/release.asp?press=2399\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this news<\/a> about the recent surge in traffic at www.mozilla.com.\u00a0 As great as the recognition is, we&#8217;d thought it would be beneficial to take a minute and discuss the exact numbers.\u00a0 In other words, comScore&#8217;s numbers are estimates (based largely on panel data), while internally here at Mozilla, we have the actual numbers from our web analytics solution that are likely more accurate and that we&#8217;re happy to share publicly.<\/p>\n<p>Below is a breakdown of all the numbers.\u00a0 &#8220;comScore&#8221; refers to the numbers estimated\/published by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comscore.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">comScore<\/a> and &#8220;Omniture&#8221; refers to the web analytics solution deployed internally here at Mozilla.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/files\/2008\/08\/comscore_aug082.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-93\" title=\"comscore_aug082\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/metrics\/files\/2008\/08\/comscore_aug082.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"95\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As comScore&#8217;s chairman <a href=\"http:\/\/battellemedia.com\/archives\/004516.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">points out<\/a>, comScore&#8217;s data is immune from issues related to cookie deletion, so one could expect their numbers to be lower than what companies find through their internal data systems.
