In several working groups we worked on proposals to improve the Reps program, keeping up with the Mozilla\u2019s and our Reps\u2019 needs. Following the <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/mozillareps\/2016\/06\/16\/repsnext-introduction-video\/\">RepsNext Introduction Video<\/a> this blog post provides a broad overview of the various focus areas and invites further conversation.<\/p>\n<h2>RepsNext &#8211; The Visual Structure<\/h2>\n<p>Here is a visual overview of the RepsNext structure:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cloud.githubusercontent.com\/assets\/5436686\/17560005\/9e6256a0-5f20-11e6-9ffa-16a57acc03a2.jpg\" alt=\"RepsNext structure as a flow chart, also explained in the next few paragraphs\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With RepsNext there will be three different tracks to be specialized in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Functional Goals<\/li>\n<li>Leadership<\/li>\n<li>Resources<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The<b> Functional Goals<\/b> track is still work-in-progress, so we cannot provide a lot of information yet. We believe this will be a group of Reps who are heavily engaged in Mozilla\u2019s functional areas.<\/p>\n<p>Reps from the <b>Leadership<\/b> track support other Mozillians and communities through their broad \u00a0knowledge. Reps in this track will regularly exchange information among themselves, creating alignment among the various functional goals in the Reps program.<\/p>\n<p>For all resource requests there is a dedicated <b>Resources <\/b>track which is specialized on increasing the program\u2019s impact. The <a href=\"https:\/\/discourse.mozilla-community.org\/t\/reps-next-announcing-the-new-review-team\/9621\">Review team<\/a>, which is part of this track, is responsible to review budget requests.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, every Rep will have a coach who has strong leadership skills and can provide guidance on Reps\u2019 personal development.<\/p>\n<p>Through this structure Reps from all specialization tracks can work together towards the overall Reps and Participation goals, each Rep contributing with their particular strengths to advance \u00a0Mozilla\u2019s mission.<\/p>\n<h2>What are we going to improve in the Reps program?<\/h2>\n<p>Let\u2019s compare the current state of the Reps program with the proposed improvements.<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Area<\/b><\/td>\n<td><b>Current<\/b><\/td>\n<td><b>Future<\/b><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Alignment with Mozilla<\/td>\n<td>There are no formal alignment processes with the Mozilla organization<\/td>\n<td>The Reps Program is aligned with the Participation team\u2019s OKRs. Council members \u00a0participate in important planning and strategy meetings<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Budget Request Reviews<\/td>\n<td>All Reps can submit budget requests, leading to a lot of ping pong when reviewing those<\/td>\n<td>Reps can specialize on \u201cResources\u201d and file requests aligned for impact. This leads to faster reviews<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Reps Activities<\/td>\n<td>Reps are mostly focused on running events in their communities<\/td>\n<td>Reps will be able to specialize in a certain topic (Resources, Leadership, Functional areas)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Mentoring<\/td>\n<td>Mentors are busy with Budget Request reviews<\/td>\n<td>Mentors will be focusing on personal development, no need to do budget reviews anymore (but you can be part of the Resources track)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Leadership<\/td>\n<td>Leadership has been part of Reps since its very beginning, it was not formally nurtured very well<\/td>\n<td>With the Leadership track we enable Reps\u2019 personal development and develop their leadership potential for them to expand impact on their fellow Mozillians<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h2>Moving forward<\/h2>\n<p>We plan to go into more detail for each of the above mentioned areas in future blog posts. In order to prioritize and invest our (volunteering) energy in the most impactful way, we need your help: Which of the above areas are you most interested in? Where do you want to hear more in the next blog post? Which concerns do you have?
