{"id":2265,"date":"2023-10-19T10:31:56","date_gmt":"2023-10-19T18:31:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/netpolicy\/?p=2265"},"modified":"2023-10-19T10:48:20","modified_gmt":"2023-10-19T18:48:20","slug":"the-revival-we-need-the-fcc-takes-on-net-neutrality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/netpolicy\/2023\/10\/19\/the-revival-we-need-the-fcc-takes-on-net-neutrality\/","title":{"rendered":"The Revival We Need: The FCC Takes On Net Neutrality"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today, the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) took an important step towards restoring net neutrality protections.<\/p>\n<p>At Mozilla, we\u2019ve long defended people\u2019s access to the internet <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/netpolicy\/files\/2020\/08\/Mexico-Net-Neutrality-Filing-031020-formatted_filed.pdf\">across<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/netpolicy\/files\/2020\/10\/Mozilla-South-Korea-Network-Stability-Law-Letter.pdf\">the<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/foundation.mozilla.org\/en\/blog\/mozilla-urges-eu-commission-to-uphold-net-neutrality\/\">globe<\/a>. Supporting the principle of net neutrality in the US has been a vital piece of this effort, from our<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/blog\/2018\/01\/16\/mozilla-files-suit-fcc-protect-net-neutrality\/\"> lawsuit against the FCC<\/a> to the <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Letter-to-the-FCC-to-reinstate-net-neutrality-March-2021.pdf\">call for<\/a> FCC Chairwoman Rosenworcel to reinstate net neutrality at the federal level, and our <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/en\/mozilla\/in-california-an-important-victory-for-net-neutrality\/\">support for state<\/a> level net neutrality laws.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/foundation.mozilla.org\/en\/campaigns\/net-neutrality-timeline\/\">Net neutrality<\/a> prevents internet service providers (ISPs) from leveraging their market power to slow, block, or prioritize content, ensuring that people online can freely access ideas and services. At the heart of Mozilla\u2019s work on this issue is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mozilla.org\/en-US\/mission\/\">our belief<\/a> that the Internet should be a global public resource, open and accessible to all. People everywhere, not just in states or countries that have passed their own net neutrality laws, deserve to have the same control over their online experiences. This openness also enables competition on the web, innovation, and equal opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>Today, the FCC kicked off a renewed effort by voting to begin a rulemaking process on \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fcc.gov\/consumer-governmental-affairs\/fcc-seeks-comment-safeguarding-and-securing-open-internet\">Safeguarding and Securing the Open Internet.<\/a>\u201d Next, the public will have an opportunity to weigh in the proposed rules.<\/p>\n<p>Mozilla, alongside a large community of allies, applauds Chairwoman Rosenworcel and the FCC for taking this vital step, and asking some important questions in the NPRM. We\u2019re eager to see the FCC\u2019s effort advance.
