Mozilla, supported by many volunteers and enthusiasts, set out to create an independent alternative &#8211; because the Web deserved it.<\/p>\n<p>Today hundreds of millions of people trust Firefox because they understand that Mozilla is different; that Firefox being independent allows it to put users first.<\/p>\n<p>In his blog commemorating the celebration, Mozilla CEO Chris Beard says: \u201cMozilla is different. We\u2019re not a traditional software company. We&#8217;re a global, non-profit community rallying behind a shared mission to promote openness, innovation and opportunity online.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/blog\/2014\/11\/10\/celebrating-choice-control-and-independence-on-the-web\" target=\"_blank\">Read Chris Beard&#8217;s full post here<\/a><\/p>\n<p>As part of the Firefox anniversary, Mozilla announces a special release of Firefox with new features that put users in control:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>DuckDuckGo added to the list of search providers available in Firefox for Windows, Mac, Linux and Android. \u00a0Duck Duck Go gives you search results without tracking who you are or what you search for.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/press-uk\/files\/2014\/11\/Duck-Duck-Go.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-1346 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/press-uk\/files\/2014\/11\/Duck-Duck-Go-160x160.jpg\" alt=\"Duck Duck Go\" width=\"160\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Forget button added to Firefox to give you an easy way to tell Firefox to clear some of your recent activity. On Android too, the new Privacy Coach has information about settings and add-ons to control your mobile browser.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>As part of Mozilla\u2019s efforts of building a better advertising and content recommendation network grounded in respect of the user, Default Tiles have been added to Firefox. It is customized for Web developers and features a mobile-first workflow that lets developers design and debug the whole Web.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/press-uk\/files\/2014\/11\/FirefoxBrowser-DevEdition.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-1337 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/press-uk\/files\/2014\/11\/FirefoxBrowser-DevEdition-160x160.jpg\" alt=\"FirefoxBrowser-DevEdition\" width=\"160\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s news also includes Firefox OS: Mozilla announced that the latest 2.0 developer preview of Firefox OS is now available for the <a href=\"https:\/\/hacks.mozilla.org\/2014\/11\/flame-gets-developer-preview-of-firefox-os-2-0\/\" target=\"_blank\">Flame reference device<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Firefox OS is just one of the initiatives Mozilla engages in to continue to keep the Web open.<\/p>\n<p>Today Mozilla also announced the launch of a privacy initiative focused on accelerating user-focused privacy online. Launch partners include Center for Democracy &amp; Technology (<a href=\"https:\/\/cdt.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">CDT<\/a>), and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.torproject.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tor Project <\/a>both non-profits, who will support and advise on Polaris projects and help Mozilla align them with policy goals.
