{"id":3389,"date":"2017-06-14T13:17:09","date_gmt":"2017-06-14T20:17:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/press\/?p=3389"},"modified":"2017-06-20T13:18:00","modified_gmt":"2017-06-20T20:18:00","slug":"mozilla-launches-campaign-to-raise-awareness-for-internet-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/press\/2017\/06\/mozilla-launches-campaign-to-raise-awareness-for-internet-health\/","title":{"rendered":"Mozilla Launches Campaign to Raise Awareness for Internet Health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today, Mozilla unveils several initiatives including an event focused on Internet Health with special guests DeRay McKesson, Lauren Duca and more, a brand new podcast, new tech to help create a voice database, as well as some local SF pop-ups.<\/p>\n<p>Mozilla is doing this to draw the public\u2019s attention to mounting concern over the consolidation of power online, including the Federal Communications Commission\u2019s proposed actions to kill net neutrality.<\/p>\n<h3>New Polling<\/h3>\n<p>60 percent of people in the U.S. are worried about online services being owned by a small number of services, according to a new <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Mozilla-US-and-Germany-Internet-Health-Topline-2017-05-31.pdf\">Mozilla\/Ipsos poll released today.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Internet is a vital tool that touches every aspect of modern life,\u201d said Mark Surman, Mozilla\u2019s Executive Director. \u201cIf you care about freedom of speech, economic growth and a level playing field, then you care about guarding against those who would throttle, lock down or monopolize the web as if they owned it.<\/p>\n<p>According to another<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/blog\/2017\/06\/06\/new-mozilla-poll-americans-political-parties-overwhelmingly-support-net-neutrality\/\"> Mozilla\/Ipsos poll,<\/a> seventy-six percent of people in the U.S. support net neutrality.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt Mozilla, we\u2019re fueling a movement to ensure the web is something that belongs to all of us. Al Franken and Ron Wyden via video.<\/p>\n<p>The event is from 7-10 p.m. (PDT), June 29 at the SFJazz Center in San Francisco. Mozilla\u2019s Project Common Voice aims to solve the problem by inviting people to donate samples of their voices to a massive global project that will allow anyone to quickly and easily train voice-enabled applications. For example, one advertisement contrasts \u201cLet\u2019s Kill Innovation\u201d with \u201cActually, let\u2019s not.
